I started this even though I was tempted to go for the full out angstorama that Autumn Tale promised to be. Those Four Seasons ones are always dripping with the good tragedy. I don't know why but I find myself using the ff button a lot even though I've heard really good things about it and it has some excellent scenes. I, horrors, have even ffed through Daniel Henney scenes! (But only the ones with the annoying Secondary Female, Hae-Jin)

After having to put up with the actress who plays the Evil Secondary Female Lead in 'What Star are You From' I really don't like her very much in this one either. She's all mopey and whiney - admittedly she had to part from her one true love because of cancer but still she grinds on my every nerve. And I fluctuate between really liking the heroine and wanting to biff her over the heat for moping over the hero, whom I DO NOT LIKE AT ALL. The actor is cute, but the character really annoys me so watching the heroine droop over him is very irritating. Hence the judicious use of the ff button. Anyway he and annoying Secondary Female more or less deserve each other and can go and breed annoying babies for together all I care. Their combined self-absorption could sink the Titanic even without a helpful ice-berg.

Actually this is one of those dramas where I much prefer the subsidiary characters, especially the mad chef at restaurant and the floor manager lady. Not to mention the secretary of quite scary mum and her love of boxing.

ETA: WTF? Did I really need to see a scene with the hero's ears being cleaned lovingly by the Secondary Female Lead? Really???

ETA 2: Okay, given that I hate the hero and his poorly chosen girlfriend, Hee-jin, and their irritating smugness and all over gittyness, I do not see how I can be delighted by any ending that doesn't have him eaten by bears while Sam-soon and Daniel Henney run off and have a linguistically challenged relationship that revolves around madelines.

ETA 3: You know what I really hate about the hero and Hae-Jin? It's that they don't bloody care about hurting other people's feelings until they realize that they might feel something for the other person or it's not doing all well in their relationship. Then they care. Pair of self-absorbed twats neither of whom actually have any human empathy that I can discern. I HATES THEM BOTH, I DO.

ETA 4: And just when I thought I couldn't despite Hae-Jin and the hero any more I find out she is comes up as 'princess of laughter' on his mobile phone. PRINCESS OF LAUGHTER. Between that and her annoying smirks that I am supposed to find charming I am hoping that it is *both* her and the hero who are eaten by bears. I am also annoyed that I hate Hae-Jin so much that I have to ff through all of her scenes which means ffing through pretty much all of Daniel Henney's scenes.

DAN HEN AND THE MADELINES SCENE = BEST PART. Or the bit when she does the karoke. That about killed me. I'm torn now.

Ahem. Samshik is a bit of an ass. No one can deny his ass-osity. You can tell from the way he angrily undresses and redresses. But it's ass stemming from emo. So I guess that makes it better? I dunno.

That was an excellent scene and one of the few I didn't ff through, especially because I was enthralled by his complete lack of understanding of what was going on and just indulging the crazy Korean lady. I could take him and Sam-Soon getting together.

Normally I am tolerant of the ass-hattery of leads in Korean dramas but I just want to kick this one. And the ear-cleaning scene was a bridge too far as far as I am concerned. I see no romance in cleaning people's ears.

I think all of [livejournal.com profile] crackchat secretly have a special place for DanHen/Samsoon.

P.S. did you notice he was reading KOREAN: FOR DUMMIES???? Oh DanHen!

I missed that bit! He is so cute when he tries out his 5 words of Korean. I think I know more than him. How his character could have such poor taste as to like her Secondary Female is beyond me.

And how have I never hear of crackchat?????

We're like the mafia...or something. I think we use a metaphor for dirty tire water.

Also I like the bit where Danhen and Samshik duke it out on the formal lawns. Such virle, manly men with their hair that barely moves!

I don't think I've hit that bit yet. Danhen's hair does seem to have a bit of love affair with the gel and the quiff. But I still love him despite this...

How could you NOT love him? Even [livejournal.com profile] ohnotheydidnt loves DanHen.

Okay, right now I want Sam-soon to kick the hero in the balls.

I often felt that way. Maybe we should ship Samsoon/DanHen and leave it at that?

Yes! I demand an alternative version of this story where Sam-Soon and DanHen run off together leaving the useless hero and annoying female lead to annoy the world together. It would be excellent if a little linguistically challenged.

Besides, even without knowing much English she still managed to have a more profound conversation with him than annoying Hee-jin.

Heh, I got Britta a little Samsook piggie.

This is one of my favorite dramas, don't fast forward! *criez*

And yes, we like to ear clean. I don't know why and it could be bad for your ear but Korean mothers always insist.

But do people really ear-clean as the romantic option after not having seen each other for years and re-experiencing the One True Love? I would think that there might be other options!

I can't help the ffing: it reduces my rage at the hero a little bit. And stops me throwing things at Hee-jin when she appears on the screen.

Seriously> There was a scene about the other girl cleaning out his ears? That's...weird.

This is one of those that everyone seems to love, but I can't work up an interest in.

Oddly, it wasn't even the ear cleaning, but the loving commentary that went along with it and also this appeared to be about the first thing they were doing after years apart. You would think that they could have found something better to do.

From: [identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com
yes, you'd think there were MANY other things they could be up to under the circumstances.

You know I despise the two of them so much that I am not surprised that they couldn't work out the other fun things to do. They probably sat around for hours being smug and annoying together. And smirking. I HATE THEM BOTH.

You inspire me so to watch this...

Only, you know, not...

I feel my tendency to be incredibly picky about kdramas is compensated by your willingness to watch virtually every one you see.

Well, this isn't actually as bad as Stairway to Heaven or All In, both of which I stuck through to the bitter end. It's just that I hate about half the cast even when I am supposed to just find them endearingly emotionally confused.

In general I am not a very discerning viewer, but I'm a bit disappointed by this one.

This is the only K-Drama that I have watched most of too. I don't know why. Maybe Kim Sam Soom will prove to be the gateway drug. I do like the heroine though, especially the scene near the beginning where she gets drunkenly belligerant. Good times. For some reason this one seems to have a few TMI scenes set in the toilet. But the male lead does get pwn'ed there by Sam Soon, so that's fun.

I like the heroine though they are a bit too engrossed of her bodily functions. But given that I also hate the hero and want to see him eaten by rabid dogs at this point I also find it annoying that she is so stuck on him. She could do so much better than his smug emoness. Wanker.

I thought the hero was too waffly and emo, but I didn't hate him. (Except when he left Sam Soon to hitchhike with the pigs. It was confusing to me though, that Daniel Henney got passed up again! It doesn't matter that he doesn't speak Korean, he just has to exist and emit hotness! What he needs to do is develop a terminal illness. Or become an orphan. Or both, just to be on the safe side.

(Except when he left Sam Soon to hitchhike with the pigs.) Gah, punctuation!

Also, I was too busy hating Sam Soon's ex-boyfriend.

I think Daniel Henney's big issue is that he is clearly not a native of Korea, he cannot have had the first love with a heroine. Being the first love is essential to one's future happiness in love apparently.

I hate most of the men in this. It is a bit disturbing really.

Samshik now fills me with rage every time he does something horrid to Sam-soon and jerks her around one more time. It's just hard to buy into his angst when it's so pointless and honestly cruel. I wanted her to stab him when he told her to look at herself to see why he didn't like her even 1%.

Dude yes, all those "hero and third wheel girl mushy crap" scenes made me want to vommit. I get that he still had feelings for her but sddjgfsdjdhgf how could she NOT notice Henry and LOVE Henry?? How could he ignore Sam-soon's love confession?

It just made me so ANGRY. But it gets better, trust me. Episode 9th rocked my world.

The mushy love scenes also make me nauseous; I imagine that back in the day they were pretty much the most irritating couple ever with their first love rubbish. And I don't mind the still having feelings for first love but he's unbelievably cruel to Sam-soon in the process.

It's not just breaking it off with her (which I understood), but then he wants continue working for him without even thinking that it would be humiliating for her and then interferes in her life endlessly. The scene where he says he never even liked her 1% and she should look at herself to see why that was made me want to kill him. Alright, he's conflicted but he's still a complete jerk and I seriously don't see that much difference between him and horrid ex-boyfriend.

aw no I love this drama a lot! . I actually like the ear cleaning scene (I guess maybe it's an Asian thing?) I used to have my ears cleaned this way by my mum which I hated! LOL./ IMO think it Shows a lot of trust between the two characters and I think it's also a close bonding type of thing.

My dislike for the ear cleaning scene might have a lot to do with how much I hated Hee-Jin and Sam-shik and how little I was interested in seeing them doing anything.

There's lots of individual moments I like in this show and I find it's well done and acted (apart from the actress playing Hee-jin. She grated on me eventually in 'What Planet are You From' and I find myself in much the same situation in this). But I find all the men with the exception of Henry such unpleasant and unbearable jerks even when I am supposed to find them endearing that it just doesn't work for me. :(

Plus I am tired of everyone calling the heroine fat and old. She's only 30 and they can only make her look even a bit overweight by sticking her in unflattering clothing.

Sorry, that comment sounded grumpier than I meant it to be! I know that this is a real favourite and super-popular but I guess for whatever reason it isn't clicking with me. The heroine is great, though. She deserves better than Sam-shik!

No worries! :D

I am interested in reading an opposing opinion since this one is a favourite of mine. It's been a while since I've seen this so I can't even remember much of what I thought originally! (had a check of my picspam) =--- I said Hee Jin was dumb because she said felt nothing when she was with Henry! Now that is impossible! Although I didn't think there was much to Henry's character apart from being nice and extremely pretty.

WORD on the fat and old. She wasn't at all fat..she actually looked pretty hot when she was dancing.
