Someone lent me season 1 of this on DVD and it is superbly cheesy. Like cheesy toast with a side of cheese on a cheese plate. (I've seen random episodes before but I suspect never season 1. Or if I did I forgot all about the annoying boy wonder sidekick.) I love how, like every other immortal being ever in the history of ever, Duncan MacLeod also suffers from the curse of flashbacks that feature lots of bad clothing and worse accents. Um, also, boy wonder sidekick just made eyes at Duncan in a really disturbing way.

Plus I am still watching The Mentalist and relishing its many delights. While the main attraction is obviously Simon Baker and his rumpledness and grin, I quite like them all, including boss lady who is certainly not interested at all in him and mainly seems to wonder how she got saddled with him and his wacky genius. Despite my unrepentant shipping ways I quite approve of this; I rather hope she turns out to be a lesbian so he doesn't get his manpain cured by the love of a good woman. I really want an icon of her rolling her eyes as Simon Baker grins in the background.

Oh man, Highlander was one of my first fandoms, waaaaaaaay back in the day! There were actually a handful of genuinely great episodes (usually courtesy of Peter Wingfield as Methos) but oh, that first season is cheesetastic. I do like to look back on it and see, like, the first use of everything in Vancouver that would later crop up in Xfiles, and BSG, and every other show in between... Also, HL got a ludicrous number of guest stars on that make for their own particular Bingo game (hello, dude from Fine Young Cannibals, back when Fine Young Cannibals were enjoying their 15 minutes! Hello, President Palmer! Callum Keith Rennie, it's you!)

There were two guys from 21 Jump Street in the first three episodes! Or I think there were. I am sort of blocking out my foray into that. And they really work Vancouver: I can't wait to see what tourist spot turns up next as random location which is supposed to reek of exoticness.

My husband calls Adrian Paul "the block of wood" for his brilliant acting skills.

He emotes in much the same way that a brick does. I find this quite unexpectedly delightful.

I need to give Highlander another go; last time I tried watching it, I didn't have access to it on DVD and I spent most of the time squinting at the tiny, bad VCR rips going, "I think that's...another dark blur. And some 80s music. I have no idea what's going on."

Also I think I was a bit put out by the fact that fandom totally misleads you about the amount of Methos.

If obtainable by no expenditure of money on your part then you should certainly give it a go. It's so remarkably flung together by adding a few lines of dialogue around men bashing each other with swords.

One of the branch libraries around here is having difficulty spending all of its budget; I'd be shocked if they didn't have it on DVD. Oh, the joy of living near a ridiculously high tax base.

Season one is like, this delicious layer cake of utter crack and cheese. It's also somewhat worth it for every time Duncan is like "I am Man, RAR!" and Tessa's in the background rolling her eyes and obviously thinking, "Why are men so stupid?"

I love it when he has a face off with evil immortal dude in an episode, she gets threatened/imperiled and they must fight it out like true men with sharp pointy objects. No double entendre there, no sir!

My brothers owns the entire Highlander series, and I remember watching one episode of it because it had Jason Isaacs in it. I was very sad that his character only appeared for that one episode.

I know I shall be sad when this series is finished. No sad enough to go out and buy season 2, I suspect, though. They do certainly pile up the guest stars.

Jason Isaacs? Okay, now you have my interest. Do you happen to remember which season/episode that was? I could probably find it if I want to IMDb, but a friendly question never hurt anyone.

I've had some JI lust since The Patriot. Yummy!

Ah, Highlander. Brings back so many memories. A friend of mine was huge into them when we were in college so we used to watch and snark.
Duncan's scottish accent left a lot to be desired though.

With an accent like that one suspects they enjoyed the chance to toss him out of their rather excessively furry skin wearing clan. They were probably tired of the mockery at clannish get togethers.

Wait until season three of Highlander and Methos shows up. Then it's like, who is the real star of this show?

Seriously, Peter Wingfield's Methos was made of win.

He can only make it better, I suspect. If I ever get my hands on the rest of the seasons I will hopefully discover his wonders....

I only have access to season one! Sadly I may never get to see how much better Methos makes it.
