Baby Names
I am not planning on using these but I stumbled across a site that had a list of various names and their popularities over the time and, o
f course, I ended up spending hours there. It was very exciting seeing what names children have been inflicted with in great numbers over the 20th century:
Dubious names of the 1910s and 1920s according to (an also) dubious list:
Girls:
Lurline. LURLINE.
Lady. This was in the top 1000 in 1900-1909. The name for when you can't really think of a name for a girl.
Lavon
Tempie
Icy. I guess you know what you're getting with a girl with a name like that.
Ozella
Mozell
Gay. Okay, I know it didn't mean then what it means now, but still...It's not even an abbreviation!
Frank. No, not Frankie. Frank.
Icie. What is it and chilly names?
Lavada
Viva. Perfect for shouting out at parties!
Wilda. Sounds like a particularly mad medieval saint. Or is that just me?
Hulda. See comment above.
Cleta. I don't know what to say about this one.
Boys
Clovis.
Hoke. I hope all of the people called this were cowboys
Lem. With a name like Lem you will surely always struggle in life.
Audrey. I really hope this list isn't accurate because there were a number of girls' names on here. I don't think there has ever been a period in which Emma was a boy's name.
Norval. This one fills me with delight. I DON'T KNOW WHY.
Doc
And in the historical category: amongst the top boys names in Florence 1497
Lapacchio
Cola
Buto
Nozzo
