Robinnnnn, The Hooded Man

Based purely on fond childhood memories I have ordered Robin of Sherwood on DVD from Amazon UK. I have a feel that rewatching it will be a bit like rereading The Dark is Rising and realising that your memory plays horrible, horrible tricks on you. But still I couldn't resist - there were manly men running through the forest, gods with antlers, evil sheriffs, and lots of bows and arrows, and have I mentioned manly men running through forests? Michael Praed was my first tv boyfriend.

Going through Amazon I saw there was a Dick Turpin series which is also now out on DVD. If Sterling wasn't so absurdly high at the moment I would have bought it; highwaymen are like pirates, you cant really go wrong with them. They just have to get on their horses and gallop madly for me to be all amazed and impressed.

I have also given up on the new Doctor Who ever being shown on US tv so will end up buying it when the boxed set comes out. But why is it so bloody expensive? For 13 episodes $80 seems a bit high to me.

Wow.

I lvoed RoS as a child. I bought it from the UK recently, and you know what? Even though the hairstyles had dated, I still thought it was full of angsty hot goodness. So you might be pleasantly surprised!

Good to know...I was hoping it wouldn't a really shaming experience.

God, that show was angsty, wasn't it? When they killed of the first Robin I - and all my friends - cried. Michael Praed so very noble and totally hot running through the woods. And they killed him!

Oh yes, it was so angsty and I cried so hard when Michael Praed's Robin died (one of my earliest crushes).

Embarassingly, I cried on rewatching that ep, even though I was rather older than 8 at the time...

Plus, Marian is a strong woman character and that's always great to see.

*whispers* I think I may cry again when I get the dvds. So may you may not be alone.

I *loved* this show as a kid. I've recently been looking for Region 1 DVDs of this. Since you got them from the UK, does that mean you ahve a multi-region player?

The UK DVDs are Region 0 (though they are finicky about DVD players. They work on my rather crappy GE DVD Player, but won't work on my newer Hitachi one).

Oh, you won't have to pay $80 for it. Shop about a bit and you can probably find it for $60 shortly after it comes out, or $40 not long after that. (That's what I paid for all my $100-retail-priced Babylon 5 DVDs.)

I hope you're right; unfortunately, the BBC seems to keep Dr. Who very expensive somehow. And UK DVDs seem in general to cost more if you have to buy them from there.

If Babylon 5 DVDs actually come that cheap I might have look around for them. I liked that show but not enough to pay the higher prices they were asking at one point.

Thank you. By the way, loved Danger Mouse as a child, too, so I really liked seeing your icon. DM was the coolest. I could imagine him being redone now with the voice of Patrick Stewart.

Not yet, but I plan on buying one because there are other things I want to get from the UK as they are obviously not going to be released here.
Circuit City sells a player that plays both Pal and NTSC for $50, so the prices are really dropping on these things.

Oh, Dangermouse is the greatest :)

I wish they'd have it on DVD...

This is true; Dr Who does seem to stay expensive longer than everything else. *sigh*

B5 is actually pretty cheap now; I've had good luck with getting things used off Amazon.
