I'm coming up with a subcategory for 'celebrities I hate'

And it's 'celebrities I hate because they make me end up agreeing with the Daily Mail.' THE DAILY MAIL. THAT'S LIKE AGREEING WITH SOMEONE THAT YOU WANT TO KICK PUPPIES EVERY EVENING.

I found Russell Brand repellent before this recent kerfuffle over prank calls to Andrew Sachs house on a radio show; after I want to kick him the length of some very long street for causing Daily Mail agreeing on my part. (And if you click on the link, DON'T STARE TOO LONG AT THE PICTURE AT THE TOP. RUSSELL BRAND WILL EAT YOUR SOUL IF YOU DO.)

Amen to all of this.

He makes me feel so old and crotchety, as if I were continually waving my walking stick and going 'You kids today and your sense of humour! Now get off my lawn before I get old woman smell all over you!'

I *know*. In my day the Mary Whitehouse Experience was edgy; now Steve Punt & Hugh Dennis are Radio 4 regulars.

Young people today.

And now I can no longer find Russell Brand hot. ::is sad::

I must admit I've never got his appeal in any way, but if I had this would probably mean it died a quick death.

Uggghh I dabble in British comedy fandom a lot and every time somebody is all HAHAHAHA I love Russell Brand I want to punch them. He´s not hot or funny, he´s filthy and just annoying. Too bad he got in that one American movie, now some Americans are all ´´omg he and Little Britain are the best things about British comedy as of late´´ and I swear I could just die hearing that.

Well, you can punch me, then. I love Russell, and I'm American, and I've loved him since well before Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Ah, I remember the days when I first became aware of him, wondering who that strange scarecrow man was who was molesting Carl Barat... Those were good times.

Anyway, to each their own, I suppose.

I just don't get the Russell Brand appeal at all. Unless it's: 'rude, homeless looking guy abuses people.' It's funny how with some people you may not like them but you do see why people do, but with others you're just 'WTF? How? What? Why? PLEASE GO AWAY NOW.' The good thing is that I don't think Brand imports that well as a comedian rather than an actor, North America might be spared the worst of him.

(Ps. Still got Press Gang on my list of things to pick out)

when I first became aware of him, wondering who that strange scarecrow man was who was molesting Carl Barat...

Hee! Even though I a) loathe Brand and b) have little interest in Carl Barat really, part of me wants that line as a signature, because it is rather awesome.

I am with Fivil though: I really hope that Brand doesn't end up all over the place over here as well because I don't want to put up with him in North America and when I go home to visit. But, as you said, to each their own. At least the Irish TV License Fee doesn't go to him, though come to think of it it does go to Pat Kenny, which is perhaps worse....

Look at the picture! (I macro'd it later.) That was my first exposure to Russell Brand, and that really was what I thought. I was creeped out by him until I saw the ep of his T.V. show where DPT guested and Carl did an impression of Russell, and then I was charmed.

I sort of hope he doesn't get big in America as well, mostly because whenever I see him on American television he seems much more reserved and less himself, and I'm afraid he'll lose the qualities that make him appeal to me if he compromises to become successful in America. Although I do wish he'd do more stand-up here because I'd love to see him live.

ARRHCHCHHHHHHH DSEWH. BRAND'S EYES. THEY ARE EATING CARL'S SOUL.
