Heroes

I'm sorry, I can't take the 'Irish' accents any more. They're just too awful to be believed and they wound my soul every time I hear them. Honestly, why the hell would you set an entire story in Ireland and not even bother to hire a few people who COULD DO THE ACCENTS. Even the Lucky Charms commercial is better and I didn't think there was lower to go than a leprechaun selling sugar laden cereal.

They're really...not good.

[identity profile] lesbiassparrow.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
They are not only dreadful but they change every 5 seconds. Apparently the actors believe that if they do this they might magically hit the right one.

All I can say is: fuck off with your crap accents.

Geez, I could do my east coast accent and come closer than what they got.

I am willing to bet than any random person plucked off the street could do a better one. They certainly couldn't do a worse one.

I find it strangely offensive that they just can't be bothered. And they set a bit chunk of this season's story there.

Suddenly Gerry's very Scottish Irish accent sounds good.

At least it would be in right general vicinity!

All those Gaelics sound alike anyways. ;)

Nothing is worse than bad accents!

[identity profile] lesbiassparrow.livejournal.com 2007-10-10 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
And these are not just bad! They've gone way past bad into new and uncharted territory for bad accents.

My friend Dan, who is from Manchester, performed a hilariously racist Irish accent for me the other night whilst drunk. He sounded like the pikeys in Snatch.

ALSO I THOUGHT DAVID ANDERS WAS SPEAKING IN AN ENGLISH ACCENT FOR A MO AND GOT EXCITED AND THEN REALLY DISAPPOINTED.

I think the cast of heroes is often confused about what precisely they are supposed to be doing in the voice category.

I feel your pain. The Australian accent is also frequently very poorly done. In fact almost no one gets it right but it's rare that a fake Aussie accent is required.

The Bad Irish accent has the unhappy distinction of being Ubiquitous yet poorly done :P An Irish friend also told me once that no one ever says: "Top of the morning to you" :D

The Bad Irish Accent has, I think, become more acceptable and well known to American casting directors than the real thing. I suspect they hear real Irish people and think 'that's not how it's done.'

Are they worse than David Boreanaz's Irish accent? That always sounded pretty atrocious. I'm not sure how Angel managed to lose it either; I can't remember that the Buffy writers ever addressed that.

[identity profile] lesbiassparrow.livejournal.com 2007-10-10 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
They are about the same level and there are numerous people with them! A lot! And at least his directors realised that they should just give it up as a bad job. I think at some point on Angel they made a plot point out of how bad it was...

Oh, God, YES. I haven't even seen this week's, but the first two weeks had me wincing so hard I got wrinkles.

American actors doing accents: TEH BAD.

American actors doing accents: TEH BAD.

In fairness I must mention Peri. That was about the worst American accent possible. English TV seems to revel in them also. What gets me is that this show has the money to cast a few real Irish people or at least go for the actor that can do a passable one. That fecking woman has an English accent when she shrieks!
