One more thing about the Doctor Who finale

The Osterhagen key has got to be single dumbest thing anyone in the entire sorry history of stupid plans has come up with. It's like all the stupid ideas in the world came together and bred the one perfect stupid idea. I especially like that it's an actual key so that any old crazy alien or lunatic timelord can get their hands on three of them and make planet Earth go boom! Given the fact that the Earth attracts enemies at a phenomenal rate, you would think even a four year old child would work out that establishing a handy way for it to get destroyed might not be the best of ideas. Good for Martha in that the only reason she was prepared to use it was because the Dalek plan wouldn't work without Earth.

Between this and UNIT doing Guantanamo Bay in Torchwood I sincerely hope the Brigadier comes back and knocks some sense into them.

A friend I saw over the weekend mentioned meeting the actor who played the Brigadier at a con sometime before New Who started -- I think 7-8 years ago -- and described him as "an elderly gentleman" even then. (He was at her banquet table and she had to admit to him that she'd never watched Who and was there for the Farscape guests, so they talked about Real Life stuff, and he was v. sweet.)

Somehow her description gives me the picture of the Brigadier as happily ensconced in retirement in a nice country cottage with roses and ivy somewhere. He doesn't have a television or a radio, and so misses all these alien invasions and such.

What a lovely story; it's nice when people live up what you hope of them.

I know that sadly he won't be returning surely but still they could do with a strongly worded letter from him once he hears about their shennanigans.

He was doing some gardening around such a cottage, along with his wife Doris, when he was last seen in the episode "Battlefield". Although he got involved in the plot of the serial, unavoidably, and ended up nearly dying in the Doctor's arms.
