I can't believe I'm writing this about Twlight

Soooo...I didn't like the book and I still can't get over SPARKLY VAMPIRES IN HIGH SCHOOL being the core of the plot, but I have to admit that I will always have admiration for anyone who makes a living writing books.* And then gets a film complete with sparkly vampires made flesh. Sadly, if someone offered me vast sums of money to write dreck about something even more horrifically and inappropriately glittery, I would do so.

As for this as her fantasy, well, I find myself not caring. There are tons of books and characters out there that are clearly people's fantasies made text (James Bond for one, Harriet Vane and Peter Wimsey for another), so even if this isn't a fantasy that I share or even think is very good, I don't actually see it as that bizarre or feel like going on about how OMG ROBERT PATTISON SO HAS HER NUMBER.

*There are some exceptions, but beyond things that are written to be vile and hateful they're few and far between.

At last, a sane voice.

Initially I found the twilols amusing but after a while, the negativity and the sheer spite really began to bug me. It's ugly beyond words.

And for the record, I think RP (the actor who plays Edward) is completely unprofessional and if I were a filmmaker, I'd blacklist him simply on the principle that I won't want to hire an actor who seems to resent the fact that he's being paid a small fortune for a role that has probably made his career.

It's also for the most part really, really boring. There are some notable exceptions but at this point a lot of it is just "I am an ironic* consumer of this set of books which makes me better than those who aren't and I shall repeat 'LOL Sparkles!' for the 5 millionth time." I SUSPECT MEYER DOESN'T CARE IF YOU BOUGHT THEM TO MOCK. SHE STILL GETS PAID EITHER WAY.

I have to admit that I find RP's comments funny, but, you know, compared to some of the rubbish that other actors have appeared in for a relative unknown he's lucky to have hit this one. It's not like it's slavery: he's being paid quite well to dazzle as Edward Cullen, as little fun as it might be.

* By people who rarely know what ironic actually means.

FTW!

Plus either way, she's getting a lot of free publicity from the twilols. I can't count how many people I've come across on LJ who were told to read the book just for the lawls. :P

Word. I't's hypocritical and completely unprofessional.
