Randomness

I have a long post I want to write on Kabhi Alvida naa Kehna (aka KANK) but my mind is refusing to cooperate. But I am really bored and thought instead I would bring you egomaniacal randomness about me:

1. I have silly dislikes. I have not forgiven anyone involved in A Knight's Tale. Except for Rufus Sewell, but I pretend he isn't in it. Like I pretend he wasn't in Tristan and Isolde (another film I haven't forgiven most of the actors and writers for). This is the reason I cannot watch Brokeback Mountain, because it would involve me forgetting Heath Ledger's awfulness and the general horror of A Knight's Tale.

2. I quite frequently like over the top angst and agony in my entertainment. This is why I like Bollywood, because it gives you this plus dancing and singing. I never understand when people critique this. Yes, subtlety has its place, but so do 100s of people dancing around and singing at pivotal moments in a film.

3. I have only read extracts of Margaret Drabble's Seven Sisters but it sounds like the most tedious middle-class navel gazing piece of rubbish ever in the history of ever.

4. I don't care what historians say, I think the French revolution was all round a good idea, even if it devolved into the Reign of Terror. More countries should have followed their lead. And no, I won't be going to see Marie Antoinette as I think she was a moronic idiot who does not merit an apologia. She wasn't that bleeding young and naive.

Er, I think that's enough egomania.

ETA: D'oh! I forgot the most important point. Please share some random stuff about yourself with me! I don't care if it's that you fear cabbages or spend your evening turning Charles Dickens' prose into rhyming couplets.

ETA 2: I also forgot that I greeted yet another (but totally unexpected) delivery man in my dressing gown. I am really going to have to buy something that is a bit more sophisticated than the one I own if I plan on doing this more.

Me? Ah, randomness --

* I love A Knight's Tale with an unholy and ridiculous passion. The more negative opinions I hear about it the more I'm convinced that I like it mostly because everybody else hates it. Always for the underdog, that's me.

* I love cooking strange and exciting things, but only for myself. If someone else is going to be eating it -- hell, going to be around to watch me destroy the kitchen -- I stick with one of four things I know how to cook really well. This may become a problem when my roommate moves in next week.

* I have watched more Star Trek in the past eight weeks than ever before in my life. I think I may be becoming a Trekkie. O.O

Hee! I do feel my own dislike for it is quite irrational and I've met people who think it's a great deal of fun. So you are not alone!

And why all the Star Trek?

I don't really know! Every once in a while I just feel the need for a new fandom. And I'd been fangirling Connor Trineer, so I watched Enterprise...and that was bad, so I watched the original series...and that was bad in an entirely different way, so I've been watching TNG...I did watch quite a bit of that when I was growing up, so now it's kind of a nostalgia trip, too. :)

The thing that makes me mad about Enterprise is that I think they had some good stuff going on there (like Trineer) and they just chucked it all away. *sigh* But I have lingering affection for TNG.

But you should be watching Ros na Run! So I can talk about it with someone. Because it's quality Irish language soap opera!

I have a lingering affection for Star Trek in general, because really it's not a bad concept...but one of the things about Enterprise that pissed me off so much was how socially conservative it'd gotten. Um, I'm pretty sure Trek was meant to be anything but socially conservative.

That's right! I have it bookmarked, I just keep forgetting. I promise to start addicting myself tomorrow. :D

I gave up in season 2 or so of Enterprise because I couldn't take the rightwing politics.

And do watch Ros na Run; it's not terribly good or anything, but it is 500 times better than any other thing RTE produces. And it has a lot of machinations and nasty people and a conflicted priest. Though I haven't seen the bit where the priest is conflicted yet.
