Randomness

I have a long post I want to write on Kabhi Alvida naa Kehna (aka KANK) but my mind is refusing to cooperate. But I am really bored and thought instead I would bring you egomaniacal randomness about me:

1. I have silly dislikes. I have not forgiven anyone involved in A Knight's Tale. Except for Rufus Sewell, but I pretend he isn't in it. Like I pretend he wasn't in Tristan and Isolde (another film I haven't forgiven most of the actors and writers for). This is the reason I cannot watch Brokeback Mountain, because it would involve me forgetting Heath Ledger's awfulness and the general horror of A Knight's Tale.

2. I quite frequently like over the top angst and agony in my entertainment. This is why I like Bollywood, because it gives you this plus dancing and singing. I never understand when people critique this. Yes, subtlety has its place, but so do 100s of people dancing around and singing at pivotal moments in a film.

3. I have only read extracts of Margaret Drabble's Seven Sisters but it sounds like the most tedious middle-class navel gazing piece of rubbish ever in the history of ever.

4. I don't care what historians say, I think the French revolution was all round a good idea, even if it devolved into the Reign of Terror. More countries should have followed their lead. And no, I won't be going to see Marie Antoinette as I think she was a moronic idiot who does not merit an apologia. She wasn't that bleeding young and naive.

Er, I think that's enough egomania.

ETA: D'oh! I forgot the most important point. Please share some random stuff about yourself with me! I don't care if it's that you fear cabbages or spend your evening turning Charles Dickens' prose into rhyming couplets.

ETA 2: I also forgot that I greeted yet another (but totally unexpected) delivery man in my dressing gown. I am really going to have to buy something that is a bit more sophisticated than the one I own if I plan on doing this more.

Maybe word got out and they want to see you in your robe.

Share? Ok.
I can't swim, I'm phobic of being in water yet the ocean has a siren call to me. I dream of dramaticly flinging myself off a cliff into the thudering waves on a dark stormy night in a pretty dress.

I am begining to get very paranoid about delivery people and my attire when they arrive.

This is a very gothic dream to be having... :)

*I thought Titanic was the most overrated film ever!! I sat there waiting to cry my eyes out..never happened. That film won 11 Oscars??? the horror!!

*I love Broccoli :D

*I dispise the republicans, and the Dems are no better..they are spineless.

*if I like something or a topic I have to know everything about it, that's why I can answer anything about SRK, the Red Sox, LOTR, the French revolution, WWII. I know the hight of the Patronus towers in Malaysia for crying out loud!!:/

Are we twins? I absolutely loathe Titanic. You would think I would love it with the angst and melodrama and the giant ship sinking, but I feel it is absolutely rubbish. And I feel similarily about the Republicans and the Dems, but as I don't have a US vote (I have a green card) it doesn't really make much different.

And why do you know the height of the Patronus towers?

I can empathize with obsession over the Don promos. Because they looked excellent.

Me? Ah, randomness --

* I love A Knight's Tale with an unholy and ridiculous passion. The more negative opinions I hear about it the more I'm convinced that I like it mostly because everybody else hates it. Always for the underdog, that's me.

* I love cooking strange and exciting things, but only for myself. If someone else is going to be eating it -- hell, going to be around to watch me destroy the kitchen -- I stick with one of four things I know how to cook really well. This may become a problem when my roommate moves in next week.

* I have watched more Star Trek in the past eight weeks than ever before in my life. I think I may be becoming a Trekkie. O.O

Hee! I do feel my own dislike for it is quite irrational and I've met people who think it's a great deal of fun. So you are not alone!

And why all the Star Trek?

I don't really know! Every once in a while I just feel the need for a new fandom. And I'd been fangirling Connor Trineer, so I watched Enterprise...and that was bad, so I watched the original series...and that was bad in an entirely different way, so I've been watching TNG...I did watch quite a bit of that when I was growing up, so now it's kind of a nostalgia trip, too. :)

The thing that makes me mad about Enterprise is that I think they had some good stuff going on there (like Trineer) and they just chucked it all away. *sigh* But I have lingering affection for TNG.

But you should be watching Ros na Run! So I can talk about it with someone. Because it's quality Irish language soap opera!

I have a lingering affection for Star Trek in general, because really it's not a bad concept...but one of the things about Enterprise that pissed me off so much was how socially conservative it'd gotten. Um, I'm pretty sure Trek was meant to be anything but socially conservative.

That's right! I have it bookmarked, I just keep forgetting. I promise to start addicting myself tomorrow. :D

I gave up in season 2 or so of Enterprise because I couldn't take the rightwing politics.

And do watch Ros na Run; it's not terribly good or anything, but it is 500 times better than any other thing RTE produces. And it has a lot of machinations and nasty people and a conflicted priest. Though I haven't seen the bit where the priest is conflicted yet.

Why in God's name did Maria Theresa, an Empress Regnant, refuse to educate her daughters?

I shall be going to Marie Antoinette for the costumes, because oh, yes, I am shallow like that.

Mmm. I hate eggplant. I went to a men's (actually boys', but I didn't know that) college because I was a '70s feminist with a chip on my shoulder.

Oh I hear you about the costumes: part of me is lured by them but then I think about having to hear about poor little Marie Antoinette for two hours and think I'll look at the pictures instead...

Don't get me started about Elizabeth. Just don't.

And they're making a sequel...

Confession: I have never finished watching Elizabeth despite my CE and my Edward Hardwicke love. I am still waiting for a film about Elizabeth I that isn't obsessed with her romantic life.

But it's all about Teh SEXXXXX!

Elizabeth had Eccleston as Norfolk *and* a brill performance by wossname as Walsingham. Pity about the decision to play Elizabeth as a braindead idiot who would have wound up beheaded even younger than Lady Jane Grey.

The milk has to be colder than cold. It has to be at the back of the fridge. If it's standing in the door shelf, it's not cold enough. I start family feuds over this.

I do not like milk very much, but if I drink it it has to be ice cold also. Otherwise, it is I feel, um, slimy or something!

Yes! I had so much work to do to train the spouse to not put my milk in the fridge door. And I still don't think he gets it, but goes along because it's easier than dealing with my wrath over this.

Yes, subtlety has its place, but so do 100s of people dancing around and singing at pivotal moments in a film.

The other day I saw Bride and Prejudice for the first time, and while Jane Austen might flip out over it, I thought it captured the spirit of the book so well (better than the 2005 film IMO), and was so much fun that I adored it. They sang! They danced! It was so colorful!

Random fact: I have OCD *issues* - not too bad, but they're there. To pick one: I eat foods that come in discreet pieces - like pretzels or grapes or french fries - on alternating sides of my mouth (one piece to the left, one to the right, and so on), so it's always important that I have an even number of them. If there is an odd number, I have to cut the last one in half. I never worry about this with other foods - like pizza or pasta or such.

I think there's a lot to be said for filming a version of P&P set in a society where things like dowries are still living issues. Do you know there's a Bollywood version of Sense and Sensibility as well? That one is more straightforwardly Bollywood, though.

I have not forgiven anyone involved in A Knight's Tale. Except for Rufus Sewell, but I pretend he isn't in it.

But but but Alan Tudyk! All for the expiation of Rufus - for better or worse I think I can forgive him just about anything. Like, murder.

I said for better or worse.

Random Stuff: I can do the splits, pull my front leg over my shoulder and do push-ups.

Hee! Obviously my Alan Tudyk is Rufus Sewell... Actually most of my hate in that film centers on Heath Ledger. And the director and writer.

And as I forgave Rufus Sewell also for Tristan and Isolde, quite clearly I am blind where he is concerned...

I have a feeling your delivery speed will go up. No more waitning around for packages. :)

I was a very literal child and thought there were herds of naugas and colonies of minces somewhere, and that's where naugahide furniture and mince meant pie came from.
