Bourne

I have a lot of things to do today. A lot. Am I doing any of them? No. I am instead stealing gathering pictures from the internets to do a Wuxia Bourne post.

But sadly I cannot find images of necrokissing which I feel are essential.

I would like to tell you that as I type this I am downloading the flying carpet death episode.

[identity profile] lesbiassparrow.livejournal.com 2007-08-10 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I cannot tell you what glee this fills me with.

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2007-08-10 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I think she's intentionally "accidentally" DLing the wrong episodes as an excuse to rewath as she goes, though...

[identity profile] calixa.livejournal.com 2007-08-10 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Lies! I can't even do that because Megaupload hates me. I got a grand total of two episodes. Now I have to wait three hours for the right one *shakes fist*

You are like Wuxia Bourne in how you suffer so we can all be happy as seeing Magic Carpet Death. *wipes tear away*

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2007-08-10 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
The necrokissing is absolutely VITAL! It is what you can point to to persuade any and all naysayers.

Sadly, this icon is not of necrokissing, but it does involve underwater kissing to "share air," the other wuxia kissing requirement.

I may have totally stolen that one from you and planned to label it necrokissing out of despair

retry

That is a lot of love for dead people...

I bet Bourne wishes he got to carry Marie through a field of flowers instead of just having her drift away.

Re: retry

yes. and you know the guys spent the next 50 years brooding. fortunately, such wuxia heroines usually pop out a baby before dying, thus ensuring that h will not kill himself 5 minutes later.

that's wuxia for you...

This one is especially excellent:

All it's missing are some cracks on his face.

I'm sorry I keep deleting the comments. I'm a perfectionist.

[identity profile] calixa.livejournal.com 2007-08-10 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)

Before carrying her away mournfully he had to smear the blood around a bit first. To optimize the effect.

This one speaks for itself:

NOW I CANNOT STOP.

Smear away~

I. Have. No. Words.

Dammit! I should totally have uploaded that one. Maybe I can do a secondary post?

I think you should.

I could do a 'wuxia Jesus' one. Though that might get me sent to hell...

isnt that what "Passion of the Christ" is, though?

[identity profile] bellatrys.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
You'd just be pointing it out, which is just a purgatory stint I think...

Wuxia Jesus would have to have a forbidden love, though. You can't have a wuxia without DOOMED PASSION of some sort. My money would be on Mary Magdalen being it and being the fighter for a set of evil monks (but she wouldn't know they were evil because they had raised her from infanthood).

This...

[identity profile] bellatrys.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
sounds disturbingly like how I imagine a mirrorverse version of the sort of stereotypical American fandom takes on Asian folklore that I mocked here (http://bellatrys.livejournal.com/327328.html) might go. It would be a perfect expansion set for the "Caucasian Adventures" RPG, frex.

There should be Roman zeppelins, though, too. And maybe an erupting volcano, though that might be too much. (But, hey, Pompeii! That was real, and around the same time, give or take a few decades. So what if we move it a thousand miles and then some...)

so basically it's like Grand Opera

[identity profile] bellatrys.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
well...they are KOREAN doomed wuxia love, so naturally, one dies...

only with way better fight scenes and outdoor landscapes?

I mean, I would TOTALLY pay to see Cavalliera Rusticana or Lucia de Lammermoor with wire work duels onstage and sweeping vistas of mountains instead of people dueling offstage and just talking about the romantic mountains around them that we can't see because the sets are made of cheesecloth...

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
hmmm...yes...with underwater kissing.

oh, and somehow, in this movie(and another bythe same director( really solid hits of the sword can result in explosions. i just remembered that...

Wow...

[identity profile] bellatrys.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
I want one of those swords! That would be awsome for the Nibelungenlied, too. And the underwater kissing would totally work for Wagner - you could have a scene where Brunhilde has to rescue Siegfried from the River Maidens, and I'm sure we could find somewhere else to stick one in, what with all the Rheingold stuff!

Re: Wow...

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2007-08-11 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
So now that Wuxia Bourne has been done, It is time for Western Epic Wuxia?(vast generalization, but hey...)

btw, the movie with underwater kissing and swords that cause explosions is Shadowless Sword.

thanks

I would really like to see a wuxia version of Orlando Furioso, though. It has the Manpain! It has the reformed by prettiness! It has the angst! It has the unstoppable swordswoman! It has the blonde Chinese princess being chased by hordes of deranged suitors! It has magic talismans and intrigue and old wizardly mentors, and while there are no flying carpets there is a hippogryph ex machina who fits the bill. And Roland loses his mind and forgets who he is out of his great love for the Chinese princess, and wanders about in much, much manpain.

I suspect it is very wrong of me to wish that this source for a great deal of old-tyme Western fanfic and fanart would get a wuxia treatment...
