Because all the cool kids are doing it
My very deep School Reunion Review
I wasn't enjoying this quite so much until the Sarah Jane/Rose giggling scene, because seeing Sarah Jane sad made me sad. Now I want to see Sarah Jane and Rose have their own series where they visit various Doctors and mock them. Yes. This would be good. And they would have very cute robot dogs and make great cups of tea and sit in their garden and do excellent time lord impressions.
I always imagined that the companions outgrew the Doctor as much as he moved on from them. I really never though of Sarah Jane as sitting at home pining for the Doctor to return. And I am totally fanwanking that one as Sarah Jane really having a great old time and suddenly wanting to comfort the emo time lord and assuring him that he was the one, when in fact there had been many, many others. ETA: I would pay good money for someone to write that fic. Especially if there was a bit where she was amused by how easy it was to fool time lords about that sort of thing.
Also I liked the idea that the slacker kid (you know, the one that screws up all of their scores totally and whom the Blairites probably despair about) is the one who saves the school. And he was then celebrated for blowing up the school. Because you should be celebrated for doing this. And I still remember Eileen O'Brien who got our chemistry lab burned to a shell as a hero, and will to my dying day. God bless you, no matter where you are, because that is my absolute best memory of all my education.
I didn't see this so much as about smacking Rose down (though I know if you don't like her you will probably see it this way) as about, well, growing up. You know, that painful bit where you realise the universe isn't really fair and never will be. And that despite that, there are other things to have fun with. And in the end you bounce back.
And my new OTP: Sarah Jane/Rose 4Eva. Screw the Doctor (and maybe they both did, are doing, will)! Their love is eternal!

I just really hope the world was kind to her because SHE BURNED DOWN OUR LAB.

I'd like to buy Eileen O'Brien a drink.

She was clearly destined for great things.

How much did I love Sarah Jane saying, (paraphrase) "No, you won't ever get back to me again, and this time I deserve a real goodbye."

Even though he has a phone on the Tardis and is probably not actually paying any phone bills for it. And both this Doctor and Nine are actually having to face up to some of their consequences of running off with young people from earth and then chucking them out when they grow up and are not longer all cute and puppy like.

In my little world, Liz got the Nobel Prize and never thinks of the Doctor at all.

One of the very first fics I ever wrote (it was in a zine and luckily is probably lost for all time) was Five coming back to find Sarah Jane and say goodbye properly. As I recall, she had a husband who looked like a handsomer version of Four. I was Very Young at the time. But I always assumed she would move on.

Also, I'm a bad, bad person, but I have this irresistible mental image of Rose bringing Sarah Jane home to meet her mum. "But, Rose, she's older than I am," "Yeah, mum, but about 850 years younger than the Doctor."

And I very much want to read that Jackie meets SJ scene.

As for SJ meets J, *that* think I can manage. :-)

Because he was never, in his own mind, HER Doctor. He possessed her, but not the other way around, which is why she was so devastated by his leaving. He wanted to be her world, but he didn't want to deal with the consequences.
And, oh, but he is going to do that to Rose, assuming she doesn't find a reason to leave on her own.
Bring the angst!
