There's no Crying in Space (except for Starbuck and Adama)

Just to warn you, I didn't really like tonights episode, so there's a bit of a rant behind the cut

(Please excuse the A League of Their Own reference, but it seemed apt.

In summary: there was crying. A lot of it. Most of it Starbuck’s, but some of it Adama’s.

Let me go on the record as saying that I never want to see Caprica again. Never. Please Ron Moore, don’t go back to the well. And there better not be a fucking mystical baby making an appearance, because if there is, I’m off. Mystical babies are never a good sign, she says having sat through season three of Angel.

Lee not being able to go against his father through an announcement to the fleet was excellent (and bonus points for seeing what a good strategist Zarek is; he really is someone you can see as being a threat even without explosives). I liked that Roslin only went to religion as a last resort, even if I’m not keen on the whole blessing of the masses. And the priestess pointing out that Roslin had to go through with it because she had chosen this path was excellent.

But Caprica. Sweet lord, Caprica. Well, we got to see the cylons are morons. Because who nukes a planet and then swoops in to pick up fertile women? What about birth defects caused by radiation? You would think you’d pick the women up and then nuke the planet – BUT THAT WOULD BE SENSIBLE. Honestly, my respect for cylon intelligence took a dive that may never be restored.

I couldn’t for the life of me work out Starbuck’s role in the whole thing. Why shoot her in the first place? Surely you could just use some sort of sleepy-time dart (don’t the cylons watch nature programmes?). And then why try to shoot her as she is leaving if she is the chosen one? Those cylon robots could just leap over her and stab the humans, surely? But as I said, THAT WOULD BE SENSIBLE.

Anders and Starbuck...it just seemed off. All the mad teasing in the beginning and then the giving of the bits of metal that the army gave her (okay, I do know that means things, but still)...it was all a bit bizarre. And I'm not even a Lee/Starbuck shipper.

And random thought on Adama: I liked the whole Boomer and Tyrol interaction and the reflection on what it means to be a machine, because everyone I know has been thinking on it. But I was less pleased by the whole let's stick with Tigh bit. I am interested in Tigh but I think given his screw-ups with the fleet, not to mention on duty drinking, it seems a bit bonkers to keep him as second in command. I guess he doesn't have anyone else, but it wouldn't strike me as the best way to conciliate the fleet.

And on shallow note: mad lighting on Caprica makes almost everyone unattractive and washed out

Why shoot her in the first place?

I figured the centurians were trying to kill all the humans in that ambush, but only decided to capture her once they saw she was still alive.

Have you listened to the podcast? It made me want to smack RM upside the head. :(

ITA about Adama keeping Tigh on as his XO. I don't think he's interested in trying to conciliate the fleet at this point unfortunately. He's still thinking I'll order them to do what I want.

I haven't heard the podcast...I've heard they're really boring, so I've never bothered. What does it say?

I think keeping Tigh on is understandable, but after all that was done to point out how he had screwed up, I'm a bit surprised we didn't get one scene with Adama and him.

I just posted my reactions to it in my LJ. :)

Thank you. Caprica storylines were always the most boring but last night's was the nadir of bad sense.
