The Hanging Gale: Update

OH. MY. GOD.

IT'S LIKE THE IRISH MADE A KDRAMA BUT DECIDED THAT THEIRS WOULD BE EVEN BETTER AND HAVE THE POTATO FAMINE AND MUD AND DONEGAL AND EVERYTHING.

ETA: And despite this being the McGann brothers and Michael Kitchen show, the female roles and actresses are pretty damn good. Also, I cried buckets at the end. And throughout.

ETA 2: I am not saying I will, but there is a strong possibility I will watch that all over again. And, unnervingly, even though it was all about misery and Ireland in its worse moments I now really, really miss home. *slinks damply off to mope and sniffle*

More woe than a Bollywood movie except without the singing. Well, certain kinds of singing. And no saris. And very diseased potatoes plus people
Seriously, I shouldn't be making fun; the potato famine was a tragedy and almost 1/3 of Ireland's population died. Or more - in any case, it was gastly and awful but it's still fun to have fun on the Internet.
No disrespect intended.
McGann's pretty/handsome/talented. Mud ugly. Potato blight evil.

I'm Irish and I'm not offended!

But on more a more serious note, it's just interesting that this got made at all. The famine was something that people didn't want to talk about for generations because of the horror and the shame and everything else involved in it.

hahahah. From what I remember, the McGanns were heavily involved in writing/idea-ing the production.

It is a McGann fest out there. Though they're pretty generous with the other roles as well.

After reading everything you said about this show, now I want to see it too! Irish Kdrama sounds like win to me! ^_^

It really is like Irish Kdrama even though there's no cancer/amnesia/stepsibling love (though there is FORBIDDEN love, which is the best sort).

I highly recommend it. I may *ahem* have watched it twice.

I watched that one summer when I was bored out of my skull and hideously depressed and I bawled pretty much all the way through. And I really, really want to see it again. Damn those McGanns and their awesomeness.

It is misery inducing isn't it? But I can't look away; it's also fixating at the same time.

Man, they really knew how to pile on the misery (not that that's hard in a story set in famine stricken Ireland).
