...you make me forget that Griffith Park is on fire and if the fire gets past all the rich people's mansions we're next. Poor firefighters; it must be horribly dangerous working like this in rough terrain and in the dark. I hope they're all okay. Of course, people are out taking pictures doubtless so they can put up their nine billion shots of the red night sky in their blogs and turn tragedy into art. Actually, I shouldn't be mean, but still they're got tripods and things out.

But Mawang. Oh I thought you were a bit slow but still lovely, but now you pick up the pace. Yes. And there is personal tragedy and things are coming together and I really want to know how the tragedy that started the killings (for Mawang is about a serial killer picking off a bunch of seemingly unconnected people) happened and who it involved.

But while I am intrigued by detective I am astonished that he was okay with friend (who is a loan shark) getting his life back together (as the detective puts it) by calling in his loans off poor people. Um, you would think that there is something wrong with that as an officer of the law, wouldn't you? It was not like the friend-loan shark guy was going to make people pay up by forcing them to snuggle with fluffy bunnies!

But I really like the lawyer who never loses his cool. He is always still while detective explodes with energy.

And what is with yet another evil father? The detective's evil father is not just horrible now with his 'I hate lawyer person who made something of themselves without going through regular channel. Those sort of people are scum.' but we also have shots of him hitting dectective as a younger man. I think this will be important in some way.

Though I feel they've made the lawyer way too obviously dark. There's not a lot of suspense in this, though I guess perhaps finding out what is at the back of this grudge is the story and not who is killing people off.

ETA: Aieee! Detective Kang, you stabbed that boy when you were in school. And you were a wanker! I thought you were just part of the gang, not the ring leader. No wonder you're so forgiving of loan shark friend.

ETA 2: Detective Kang, the excessive moping about loan shark friend is annoying. He exploited the poor! He was part of the underworld! What else did you think was going to happen to him other than a young death. Mind you, if I was left with the rat-faced git whom the Lawyer released from jail I might be upset too. I rather admire the way Lawyer Oh Seung Ha has ensured the others are left in agony with horrible ratty git whom they loathe - and who keeps blackmailing them. Though Seung Ha is still too obviously the mastermind.

I literaly laughed out loud at that.

I think in Mawang it's not a mystery as who did it (even promos I think referred to OSH as the killer) but why and how.

I really must watch this now.

Oh - that makes sense as they are not trying to hide anything. It's interesting to see how all the supposedly innocent people (like Kang) are in fact guilty of many terrible things themselves.

It's very leisurely (sometimes a bit too leisurely for my tastes) but very gripping also at times. And it really looks gorgeous. Sadly, now I have seen all the available episodes and will have to wait...

BTW, did you ever end up seeing Freeze? I've been eyeing it on Yes Asia but it's quite pricy for 5 episodes and I'd like to know if it's good before I buy. (I prefer to watch on DVD than on the computer if I can).

I am so fascinated what surprises all this holds ahead, especially what Oh Seung Ha is going to do next. I think OSH will be going redemptive way (and this is not going to end well in kdrama).
Also I like detective Kang. What I don't understand is how he is capable to live with the death of OSH's brother. I think we will find out either that the brother wasn't that innocent or that Kang forgotten (blocked out) this episode somehow. Or that he wasn't the one to stab the boy after all. This is very fascinating – who, why, when! I don't think we will find the truth about the past crime until the last episode and I am sure this truth will be very different to what we are thinking now..

The thing is that I don't think Kang, though not evil, is sometime particularly nice at all. If he was nice he wouldn't think it was okay for friend to be a loan shark and extort money from people (like Sora's mother). I just don't know how he could think that this is a decent way to make a living especially as he must know how these people enforce their demands. And it was pretty clearly shown to us that loan shark friend was not very nice at all and not at all aware of it, but in fact convinced that he was suffering wrongly when people wouldn't pay back their money.

As for the death of OSH's brother, I suppose that Kang is doing penance by being a police officer when he could be leading a much cushier life - and when his father is so horrible to him about his job.

Sorry, didn't see Freeze but I heard it's overly emo and too depressing so I wouldn't buy :)

The loan shark guy was Ok for me: he was very cute and wanted to change and I am so partial to the redemptive types. I didn't think he was a particular sharky shark or a particularly cruel one. I can understand Kang to be his friend even though he wasn't a nice person.

There is much of it in "The Wire" (the most brilliant HBO show of all times :D) : some camaraderie is shown between the crime side and the punishment side. I understand that, especially if this was his childhood friend. Kang is not really condoning what his friend is doing, it is just for Kang this loan shark guy is still his friend..

What is worrying for me is that Kang is not having much of the visible remorse..I truly think that the story with the dead brother is much more complex than it meets the eye.
