You know, I've seen this book around a lot - I just baulked at the 1939 publication date (in that whole arrogant "we know more now" sort of way even though I really love Gibbon and that is so much older) but upon your recommendation I shall be adding it to my reading list!
After I finish reading all the books about Stalin ;)
