The Rising and a hockey rant
Oct. 8th, 2005 07:31 pmToday I ordered The Rising from nehaflix. God knows when I will get time to watch it but I still want to have it ready for viewing just in case I have an Aamir Khan emergency. Given that netflix currently has Bunty aur Bhabli listed as 'very long wait' I think I might buy that too. I am not sure what 'very long wait means' - Weeks? Months? Centuries? - but it doesn't sound good. Nehaflix seem pretty reasonable in their charges too, so if this works out I will have a source for Bollywood movies that Netflix misses.
And now for a hockey rant. Okay, so my team (Carolina Hurricanes) held it together for a win over Pittsburgh. Or their rookie goalie, Cam Ward, did. You think you'd go to various news media sources and they would comment on his brilliant showing - blocking shots in the shootout from Sidney Crosby, Ziggy Palffy and Mario Lemieux. But no, the stories are all about Sidney Crosby and his wonderfulness. Look, I don't doubt that he's wonderful and I would be delighted to see Pittsburgh saved as a team but does every news story have to cater so obviously to the league's desperate need to present them as a model for parity under the new system? Carolina is not exactly a powerhouse itself and could do with some publicity, but apparently their successes are of no interest to the press.
And now I am off to pity myself for having to work over my entire weekend. Hopefully on Sunday I will get to watch Rome.
PS. Sorry about the whiney quality of this post, but it comes after 10 hours of staring at a computer screen plus the composition of a 2 hour lecture on Etruscan women, a subject about which I know little.
