Advertising the US Army
Mar. 14th, 2006 07:52 pmUS army ads used to look like car or video game ads and I had finally learned how to recognize them and tune them out. Now the latest one for the Marines looks like a beer ad - even down to using the voiceover guy who did the beer camp ads for Miller. (If it's not the same voiceover guy it sounds freakishly like him.) This is even more disturbing. Do they think I'll sign up for free beer in the Rockies and then suddenly they'll be 'oh and right you have to go to Iraq now, but if you're lucky there will be beer!' and I won't really notice?
Also, Miller is the only thing I've ever discovered that I am allergic to. It gives me a migraine with in a half hour of drinking any amount, so the connotations are very bad. But then I don't think I am the army's target demographic, so no loss there on their part really.
