I bet you will all be delighted to know that I plan to move onto Dark Angel* next. Give you a bit of a break from spamming about teen alien angst. It would be vainglorious of me to call these thoughts 'meta.' Or even really thoughts. They're more a series of questions/issues/things that have come into my fevered brain as I deal with the plague.
1. Why did Nasedo have such cool powers compared to the teen aliens? Did becoming hotter and younger make you less powerful? Is it something about hormones? (One of my peeves is that the aliens never really had very exciting powers. While bringing people back to life is all well and good, nothing beats a good smiting. NEEDS MOAR EXPLOSIONS.)
2. How could you write a more boring foil/obstacle than Tess? Theoretically the character should work even if you're a mad Max/Liz shipper. What could be more fun than to watch your OTP win out over a past life and destined alien love? But she's so awful. Even when she goes evil alien baby momma, she's boring. I bet she was equally boring back on Anwar. I bet courtiers used to avoid her and King Max like whoa because otherwise they'd have to watch them simper for hours at a time. Or maybe even days and tell that goddam story about how they met at that party for the 5,000th time.
3. So was there a grand plan with getting Max and the others back to Anwar? If they were pissed off that his kid was human, were they going to accept human shaped pink people back as their leaders? Or would they all be converted back into green men once they landed on home soil?
4. When they revamped the show in season 2 (and I would say that season 1 is a perfectly decently written, if cracktastic teen alien story. And the pilot is perhaps the best I've ever seen in terms of setting up a show) did anyone think about their fan base? I don't know much about it, but what I do know involves mad shippers who weren't going to embrace a season of sitting through Max and Tess relive the world's most boring love story. And really it wasn't scifi enough to attract anyone else. Because, you know, the Star Trek crowd probably aren't going to be lured in when your biggest story line is alien babies. (God, how I hated that story. Why not just make Tess evil without making us suffer through all of that? WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THAT?)
5. Michael's decisions were always bad, weren't they? Did he ever make a good one? I did admire his endless optimism, though. You could see that he devoutly believed that one day he would make a good decision against all the evidence of experience and reason. Still, it did explain why they lost the war on Anwar. I hope Max was taking notes of what not to do if he should ever regain power.
6. WHAT THE FUCK WAS THE ALIEN BABY STORYLINE ABOUT. I know I already mentioned that BUT OMG WAS THAT PAINFUL TO WATCH.
7. Why does everyone hate the Old Man Max and Morgan Fairchild episode? He was sort of hot as a deranged but attracted to Liz homicidal maniac. They needed more evil Max. And explosions.
8. Jesse? REALLY? WHAT WAS THAT???
*The moment someone mentioned that there was an evil twin I was right there.
