So, I am returned from trip to desert places. Unbelievable fun, including staying at the Amargosa Hotel, run by batty, dancing, and very aged lady. She apparently performs at the adjacent 'opera house' which must involve her standing and people dancing around her because otherwise surely she would keel over.

Also hotel in desert had no TV, restaurant or phone. Thus I and my friend were forced to entertain ourselves. Which I did by reading The Way of All Flesh out loud which is a rubbish Victorian novel, but if one reads the right extracts it becomes rather naughty. I plan on posting this pornographic version at some point in my journal, because Victorian hypocrisy needs to be unveiled. It does also almost write itself as those Victorians were fond of the double entendre.

Also I just saw the new Who.

I liked this so much better than The Christmas Invasion. Also it is somewhat reassuring as I don't find Tennant hot and thus do not have to deal with the wrongness of finding the Doctor sexy. This is good.

List of things which I liked
1. Rose as Cassandra. 'I'm a chav!'
2. The Doctor as Cassandra with the glorying in the bits, which are apparently hardly used. Given that he's only had the body for a wee while, he obviously has been up to something
3. Zombies which do not just involve running down corridors but climbing up things and then running down corridors. Excellent
4. The cat nuns. And the nuns being rather evil. Because I was educated by nuns and I just knew they were hiding nasty secrets. Except I thought it involved the parish priest. And lesbianism. Not curing illness through experimentation on humans.
5. The introduction of what I assume is this season's theme with the face of Boe and divinity. Or something. I really hope there is some point to the Doctor as a god, even if a pin-striped one.

The Thing I didn't like:
1. The sudden about face for Cassandra. It was too easy and I thought this doctor was about not giving second chances, etc., etc.. Two seconds of repentance for a life of complete selfishness and killing of those who got in the way doesn't exactly balance out.
2. This is more 'I won't like it if they just leave it to one side': the doctor as Jesus healing the sick minor deity. Which was a bit creepy all round.
