I was doing some browsing at LJ (hey, I'm bored) and I've been coming across multiple entries claiming the English entry at Eurovision was good. Well, Eurovision good, at any rate. I understand patriotism and I understand a fetish for airline uniforms and perhaps temporary madness which afflicts one at Eurovision, BUT HAVE YOU HEARD THE SONG? There are no grounds on which that was a good song. Bizarre and camp maybe. Entertaining for how the singers got those lines out without having hysterics, but if you have ears you cannot claim that was a good pop song.

And it's not me being anti-English because I am willing to admit Ireland's entry was equally (and perhaps more) awful.

Seriously!!! I know Sasha claimed that UK entry was brilliant but she is 7-year old. :D And it wasn't even bizarre because good bizarre is something that Eurovison is all about, but it was boring.. (and YES! Ukraine should have won. :D. According to my friend their guy is actually a huge thing in Russia and Ukraine but he normally sings something quite different)

The UK entry was good if you had a fetish for airline ads. I can see that the bright colours would appeal to children, but apart from that!

And Ukraine was great. Though I was rather fond of astonishingly pink French singers too.

I actually liked the song, I was bopping along to it. Of course, now I'd be hard pressed to remember how it went and I didn't think it was win-worthy but still, I bopped. Mine ears were not offended all that much.

And yes, the bus will be along in the morning to take me to the musical re-education camp! ;-)

I can see how you might not be too offended by it, but believing that the UK was robbed and ranting about it seem going a tad too far. :)

Besides, the romance of economy class isn't really something that appeals to me! :)

The Eurovision really does provoke some very strong reactions in people. I remember back in 1988 when Celine Dion won in Dublin (we were winners back then!) that there were reports that Bruce Forsythe had gotten all huffy in the audience because his daughter's song had been beaten by one point and he was giving out and shouting in the audience.

Thing is though, nobody really seems to spare it much thought until it comes time to pick another song. At least, that's my experience. Maybe I don't hang around enough Eurovision groupies!

Economy class doesn't appeal to me either. And I know what Scooch reminded me off, it's the Sky One series, Mile High about a lowfares airline and the hi-jinks the stewards and stewardesses got up to. Even the costumes were similar.

I have never heard that Bruce Forsyth story. How very strange!

Eurovision is a very temporary sort of madness and enthusiasm, isn't it? I usually spend my time wondering how they manage to include Israel in 'Europe.' Clearly their borders are different to mine!

The Irish entry was so awful that even my Mam, lover of all things deedeli-ideli, thought it was bad.

As for the UK entry, just rememeber they think Steps and SClub7 are music here. They have no taste!!!

The Irish entry didn't even have the guts to go deeply traditional and blow our chances that way. This was the worst of both worlds!

The UK entry wasn't just madly naff. Not offensive, but just there in the way that adverstisement background music is...
