I've been over reading fandom_wank's reports on the fall-out over the latest Harry Potter book and it's bonkers but strangely fascinating.
It's like watching new religions form. My favourite part are the cries that the series can only be saved if it is taken out of Rowling's hands and given to a particular fanfic writer. Yes, a fanfic writer. It's not that I've got anything against fanfic or don't think it can be excellent...but didn't Rowling create the universe you are playing in? Without her you wouldn't have anything to write about. Nada. Nothing. Zilch. Your communities only exist because she wrote something that you enjoyed enough to want to explore further or in different directions than canon. Might want to think about that before you decide that she's incompetent because there wasn't more sex/less sex/the pairing you want/Draco didn't turn out to save Hogwarts and ride off with a fawning Harry/the squid was once again ignored/fill in development of your choice that Rowling didn't put in because she wanted to hurt you and those like you.

You can see the splintering of the groups and really it's just like watching cults forms: the sacred texts don't say what we want, so we will substitute our own. Yeah, verily, it will contain true revelations for we are the ones who can commune directly with the spirits of the characters and then we will go to war with those who oppose us. Any moment now someone is going to call for a crusade. Where is Pope Urban when you need him?
