Bourne! And Corridors of DOOOOOOOM

I saw the new Bourne movie today. It was fun but it did seem to manage to pack in more corridor scenes than your average Doctor Who episode. And the director would use the whole shaky cam thing to try and persuade me that this was exciting and that people saying 'this is a code four. he's live' was also very thrilling. Though there was excellent manpain of both the physical and emotional sort.

And speaking of manpain (and I often do these days), I am half convinced that the director of 'Silence' is not only in love with Vic Zhou but also believes he is making a Victorian drama. There was one 10 minute scene of Zhou's character just lying pale and wan on white sheets that reminded me of several Little Nell death scenes especially when his best friend pressed his hand in sympathetic angst. It was all quite excellent, really. And is it just me or does the hero's secretary half resemble an evil Barbie Hsu? I have a strange affection for Evil Secretary and her sort of thing of Secondary Male Lead.

ETA: It has been revealed that Secondary Male Lead of Silence got himself run over to ensure that Heroine and Hero would not get together. I am not sure if this makes him almost the winner on the manpain stakes or just a complete and utter nutter. Maybe the two are not so far apart? But if you like aesthetically gorgeous male angsting this is certainly the dorama for you.

Ultimatum lllloooooovvvveeeddddd its cooridors and alleys. The movie was all about Bourne and his angst angst angst. I maintin that they killed puppies in front of Damon and Stiles to make sure they didn't smile throughout the movie.

You know he's going to spend the next 50 years in some cabin in the middle of nowhere, brooding over Marie and angsting. If Bourne ever smiles again, his face will SHATTER. Shatter, I say.

Poor Jason and his cabin of romantic loss and angst. He will be the standard by which everyone else assesses manpain. Though I feel that they would have had even more manpain had Marie been kidnapped and held by the CIA and then having Bourne angstily trying to rescue her and FAILING.

Jason out-ngsts and out-manpains the angstiest of kdrama heroes, really.

I'm not sure about the kidnapping though...that may have resulted in enough manpain to kill him...if that happened, he couldn't spend the next 50 years angsting over his los love...

(Poor Nikki...they could have been the most passionately in love people ever before the amnesia and she still woulda lost out to Marie's ghost...)

Bourne cannot be killed even by an excess of manpain. I firmly believe it only makes him stronger.

I know that in the unlikely event I were to be killed by an evil CIA cabal I would want someone to get revenge rather than mope. Exceptions might be made for people who mope in the snow and live in cabins forever mourning my demise. But only might.

With Bourne, you get both. Because now that he has his revenge and his memories, that's what he'll do. no one will ever hear from him again(well, unless there's a nikki manhunt on the news, maybe, but that would threaten to lading to romance, resulting in a lessening of manpain)

I would be very sad if Bourne's manpain over Marie and being a prisoner shooting bastard back in the day were lessened by getting together with Nikki. I prefer the solitary cabin route myself.

agreed. it's much more fun this way. he can return to save nikki and restore her to her former life, thus accomplishing something good, but he must go right back to his cabin(gotta kinda feel sory for nikki...she loses out to a ghost and gets to spend the next 50 years on the lam...)

I have a theory that Nikki was the person who got him into Blackfriar or was part of the conditioning and thus her losing to a ghost and spending 50 years on the lam is karmic payback.* It makes me feel a lot better.

*possibly she also killed someone with a careless flying carpet in 10th century China.

I actually had that theory myself, especially since we saw what looked to be a blonde woman very briefly in the corridors at the training facility.

calixa and I have been discussing Jason and his mapain and have determined that he was a wuxia hero in a previous life...there's the whole kissing Marie after she's dead and watching the current carry her body away, the jumping off the building and into the river and the rooftop jumping...all very wuxia. And his excessive manpain and his destiny to live alone in a cabin. But really, the necrokiss alone qualifies him.

I feel like I have seen Necrokissing happen a lot, but cannot come up with any examples. Wuxia heroes often send their dead otps down the river, though. Usually on rafts they (presumably) built themselves and covered with a number of astonishing flowers. Sometimes they set the raft on fire and watch it mournfully as it floats away, burning symbolically on the waves... I'm sure this all happened in Jason's head.

a. it's self inflicted

I agree with you on secondary lead. He does fail on the hotness grounds and also on the self-inflicted one as well. It was also a bit dumb as if he were killed it would leave the ground clear for Hero to swoop in and comfort the heroine.
