1. Not written my paper for next weekend. I shall be reduced to summarizing the plot plus a festive interpretive dance

2.Seen the horror that is Red Dawn. Or about 15 minutes of it; that's got to rank highly up there on the crappiest films ever made category. This prompted me to look up that other dreadful show about the Soviet Union taking over America, Amerika. If you go to imdb to look up this treat be prepared to be very entertained by the comments there about how true this is and how this would have happened if Bush (either one of them) had not won their elections. In 2000 someone wrote this gem "The only thing detrimental about this series was its length. But that was probably the best way to demonstrate the gradual takeover of our country by communists. It demonstrated perfectly how our freedoms can be taken away, not with a single hard swipe, but incrementally one by one until there are no more. I am still surprised that this series came out of Hollywood, knowing their far-left political bent." Hahahhaha. I wonder if they're still thinking the threat to civil liberties comes from communists in 2008.

3. Gotten annoyed at all of the secondary characters in Bad Love. Feck off with trying to tell me I should have sympathy for evil wife's woes, because I refuse to. YOU HAD AN AFFAIR TOO!!!!! So stop with the 'you evil woman! you slept with my husband, etc.!' moaning. And Eyebrows? You sending in a doppleganger of the hero's first love and then saying that you didn't intend any misery to occur to the heroine is just trying to have your cake and eat it.

4. Spent an inordinate amount of money on hair and spa visit. So even if my paper doesn't get finished I will hopefully have great skin.

5. Watched many ads for 10,000 BC and been astonished that this a) isn't a SciFi channel production and b) people expect you to spend good money going to see this.

ETA 6: Decided I really like the genre of creepy island films, the best of which is the old Wicker Man. Having been raised on one I like the idea that everyone thinks that we are all having good, crazy times abducting tourists, having great times at pagan rituals, and living forever by using other people's blood.

I haven't written my paper either and I need to get it done for Thursday (not the due date, but I am going home then). And it's in French. And I have no idea how long it's supposed to be. And the prof hasn't emailed me back.

Shared misery! Yay!

At least mine is in English. And because it's a conference thing I can just skip the footnotes and handwave at points if I need to. Plus plot summary! I reckon I can get 3-4 minutes from that.

If only my life were so easy as yours. For this same class, I have a 5 minute presentation on Monday, but I am just reusing a paper I already wrote. I just have to translate bits into French from English.

I had never heard of 10,000 BC until I saw a pic for it yesterday. Now all I know if that it features a girl in jungle.

Plus mammoths! And sabre-toothed tigers. And people who look really clean and well=kept for people of 12,000 years ago. The first ad I saw for it made me think it was a SciFi film and I was astonished when I saw it was a cinema release.

I bought my mom a copy of Bad Love since it seemed to be the kind of crack that she would like (Stairway to Heaven is her favorite). Now I have unrelenting amounts of tragedy and crazy hair in my living room. Am not sure what's going on with Main Hero's hair; it seems to have gotten worse from Sad Love Story.

I hope she enjoys it as much as I have/am. While not quite of the calibre of the cracktacular Stairway to Heaven (nothing is! nor will ever be) it is a ripping good time. All it is lacking is blindness, but I still have hopes!

And all hair fades behind the glory of the evil wife's 'dos.

I grew up in USSR and we had movies about evil Americans who wanted to come over and take us over :) Glad to see it's a mutual thing. When I was little, I used to wish every night that if US was going to drop a nuke on us, to die in my sleep before the Americans would bomb us to smithereens. Heh.

to have your cake and eat it.

I have never understood that saying. Of course you want to have your cake and eat it. The whole purpose of having a cake is to eat it. What else are you going to do with it. :)

Did you have films about the aftermath of a US takeover? I'd love to see one just to compare (it would hilarious if they imagined exactly the same things as the US ones about Soviet takeovers). Red Dawn>/i> is quite, quite dreadful but entertaining for a wee bit. There's lots of people looking all beat up by the Russians, burned out cars and empty shops.

I went to all of the trouble of looking this saying up and apparently it went the other way around at first, so that it referred to wanting to first eat your cake and then still have it. Which makes more sense.

No, no aftermath films. Because that would be admitting defeatism and the mere possibility of glorious workers' paradise being destroyed is unthinkable :)

The American's favour the 'our government gets conquered/sells us out but we are saved by crazy mountain folk with guns' story for some reason.

1. Make sure to get the festive interpretive dance on video and put it on YouTube for us.

2. Red Dawn: so gloriously awful in every possible way! My father, brother, and I have a family tradition of MST3King it. *is nostalgic*

I will be sure to tape any festive interpretive dance for your viewing pleasure.

Red Dawn told me that Soviet controlled America looks a bit like downtown Detroit on a bad night. *nods*

Apparently 10,000 BC cleaned up at the box office this weekend. As PT Barnum (I think it was him, anyway) said, no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public. Or something like that.

I am astounded that people actually spent their own money on this film. Their own money! Which they presumably worked hard to earn!
