I don't know why but I am so incredibly cranky at the moment and have been for a week. Everything I see and read seems to send me into unattractive self-righteous conniptions. I do not like this side of me! Where does it come from?! Watching Ivanhoe with Ciaran Hinds* staved it off for a bit but now it's back. Hopefully The Virginian will manage to soothe this feeling into submission so I can safely be turned from writing horrendously wanky entries.

* I always glad that there is no Ivanhoe where people try and make Rowena the centrepiece with her annoying uselessness. She's boring and insipid and should stay that way so everyone can appreciate Rebecca.

I've always felt for Rowena. There she was, obediently waiting for her boyfriend to come rescue her, and he was off frolicking with Rebecca. (Yeah, Rebecca is much, much better, but Rowena suffers from being living in a time when properly bred and respectable women had no brains or spines.

I think what I most dislike about Rowena is that she's so unaware of how useless she is. And all that flaxen hair freaks me out.

Sadly, I am so shattered that I am going to bed soon (!) - so pathetic, but I never recovered from back to back conferences.

Ivanhoe marrying Rowena over Rebecca is one of the biggest fiction disappointments of my youth.

I know! I finished Bad Love and it was excellent. I really enjoyed every minute of it, but I haven't found a replacement one yet. I should probably just watch an old one again until I find something equally melodramatic.

Rebecca was 10 times better than Rowena. Even Walter Scott said so! I like to think that Rebecca went onto great adventures in Spain while Ivanhoe was stuck with boring old Rowena and regretting it.

I was cranky like that last week. Everything got on my bad side. Even my good side, that was on my bad side. I decided that what I needed was a break from The Opinions of the Internets, and I took a small break from LJ, Snarkfest, my political blogs--basically, anything where people I semi-knew discussed anything I semi-cared about. I think I have successfully reset (i.e., I went to SF today and did not feel some crazy urge to reply with "OMG I WISH REESE WITHERSPOON WOULD DIIIIIIEEEEEE!")

I know! I kept wanting to weigh in with strong opinions about things that I don't even care about! And I suddenly really cared about those opinions even though I didn't even have them before.
