Starring Richard Hatch

You know, when you look at the DVD of Season One of BSG on Amazon it lists only one star: Richard Hatch. You have to click on 'see more' to get the other people who are actually in the regular cast. I find this very amusing.

Also from reading Ron Moore's blog I realise that he likes many of the things that I don't actually like about Starbuck the First. Admittedly I am going from dim memories and catching bits of the original series on SciFi, so maybe I am totally misinformed about the wonders of the original character. In any case, this makes me a little worried.

And in totally unrelated note, I always find it funny what Amazon thinks I would be interested in. As I tend to buy both academic and specialised books and tv shows from there my suggestions are totally schizophrenic.

Could some kind person who knows something about Stargate: Atlantis tell me if they can get back to Earth or not? I've only seen a few recent episodes and I'm confused.

Regarding SG: Atlantis, last season they were unable to return to Earth because they needed a ZPM (which is Ancient technology, I gather - I never watched the original Stargate so I'm sometimes a bit lost myself), and they completely depleted the only known ZPM in existence when they opened the wormhole to make the trip from Earth to Atlantis in the first place. Apparently, because the distance is so great or whatever, only a ZPM has enough "juice" to power the gate for the trip.

A lot of episodes last season on Atlantis dealt with trying to find a new ZPM in the Pegasus galaxy. But then towards the end of the season, in a non-crossover/crossover, I gather that the Stargate team back on Earth found a fully charged heretofore undiscovered ZPM in Egypt (again, I don't watch SG:1, so I didn't see that episode), used that ZPM to power up the Gate to send reinforcements to Atlantis, and then used it to power the engines of the Daedalus to make it super super fast so that it could fly to Atlantis and transport the ZPM.

Now the ZPM is at Atlantis, so it can be used to power up the Gate so that people can return to Earth, but if someone from Earth wants to visit Atlantis, they need to be shuttled by the Daedalus, which is not super super fast anymore but still fast enough that it can make the trip in about 3 weeks.

Oh, and I adored the original Starbuck when I was 9, but that was because I had a huge crush on Dirk Benedict. (And I think that Starbuck/Athena on the original BSG was my first "ship"!)

Thank you so much for your explanation! I had seen the ship but was wondering why they weren't bouncing backwards and forwards with the gate. I think I'd prefer it if they were totally cut off, though (I have a weakness for that cliche in tv shows and books). The past couple of episodes have actually interested and amused me a bit so I'm trying to sort out who is who and what is what so I'm not totally clueless.

I liked Starbuck when I was little too, but now when I think back on him I just sort of cringe. I also think that seeing the original show recently on SciFi did him or the rest of the cast any favours...it's so amazingly bad that it's quite cheestastic.
