Shame! Tremendous Car Shame!
Dec. 18th, 2006 03:39 pmSo the horrible and completely useless LED dashboard display on my car went out. I hate that display and its pointless bits of information (such as the fact that I have been driving for 2 hours, or will get x amount of miles from the gas I have in my tank based on current driving conditions), but being worried that maybe it also linked to some useful information I decided that I would have to actually take it to the dealer to get it checked out. I also decided to get the airbag sensor replaced which has been wonky for a while, but which I have rather intrepidly ignored because it is only me in the car and I am willing to gamble my safety against the $950 cost of repairs. And I was dreading this because I was thinking about the horror of what this would cost, because apparently Audi parts are made of gold mined by elven virgins. Or so you'd think from the cost.
Er, the airbag thing is real, but it turns out I had managed to turn the LED display off myself by fiddling with the wiper lever. The shame! The knowledge that you will be one of those stories that mechanics tell of really stupid people who probably shouldn't be allowed near cars! At least they didn't charge me the $135 fee to find out that I am that clueless.
