Consumerism
Aug. 2nd, 2010 09:47 pmToday I did not buy Clash of the Titans because apparently I need a blu-ray player so I can watch what will surely be the completely AWESOME alternate ending where Perseus is hopefully as magnificently dumb as ever and gets whoever was alive at the end of the film killed. I do resent this being pushed into getting a blu-ray player - I am certainly not going through the VHS replacement saga all over again. (BTW are the blu-ray formats different from region to region?). But I did get a second hand copy of GI Joe for $7 which I am currently watching. It's as beautifully and wondrously dreadful as I remember. AND THE MINI NINJAS ARE STILL GREAT. THEY SHOULD BE IN EVERY FILM. In fact, it should be an extra on every DVD that one can add them into pivotal moments.
I also bought some books, including the new David Liss one (well, it's new to me). This was a relief as I had wandered around the book store for ages looking for something that didn't make me writhe in shame when I read the cover blurb. It's all bloody vampires and touching stories of people operating bakeries in Baghdad while their girlfriend has a knitting book club that warms the hearts of crotchety old pensioners and divorced 40 year olds.
