[livejournal.com profile] dangermousie is watching Spring Waltz which makes me want to rewatch it. That Kdrama has everything: evil parents, children being sold into slavery, classical piano recitals, evil and crazy other girl, evil dads, and cute heroine. And Daniel Henney. I should dig out my discs with the crazy subtitles and enjoy the pretty, pretty people suffering beautifully.

Evil dads? You mean there are MULTIPLE evil fathers? Ahhhh, dare I hope for so much joy?

I must admit I am one of the few females in the world who has her genetics messed-up and thus does not find Daniel Henney hot. His character is rather sweet though, in a puppy way.

Hmmm. I think that the adoptive parents might be more crazy than evil. Though they do tell him that his first love is dead just so he won't be bothered about her again, so there's that.

That qualifies for evil in my book. Anyone who has a small kid pretend to be their dead son and also tells him his friend is dead because it's more convenient for them qualifies as kdrama standard-issue evil parent. Ahhhhh, this drama is going to give me such joy! Maybe adoptive parents can hang out with heroine's adoptive parents from One Fine Day who adopt her and pretend she is their dead daughter and call her by the girl's name? And their creepy bio son has a thing for her and tries to rape her? (This is so your drama. She ends up in love with a different quasi-brother. It's delicious).

Yeah. You're right, they're evil and nuts. I think mum has a breakdown at some point just to guilt the hero out totally (I love it when they do that).

One Fine Day sounds magnificent. Totally and utterly magnificent.

Just once when evil parents breaks down in guilt trip I'd like the hero/heroine ignore them or maybe yell at them and tell them what that manuever is worth. Maybe one day I'll get my wish. I did after all get my wish of not having the heroine cower or feel guilty when secondary girl acts insane and blames her - I cheered like mad in Que Sera Sera when secondary girl tried that and heroine slapped her instead.

The Secondary Girl in One Fine Day is also deliciously crazy. She is pretty ill and refuses to take medication that would make her better just so she could guilt the hero.

And the hero and heroine were at orphanage together!

It's sort of like Autumn Tale only with a happy ending and much less ridiculous. Which I guess is not saying much :D

Plus, Gong Yoo! Picspam to convince you:

To be fair, adopted mom (IIRC) didn't know it wasn't him at first because her kid dying drove her nuts, and was attached to him by the time she realized he was a different kid, and adopted dad did it because he was worried adopted mom would kill herself without a kid.

Not that it decreases the nuts.

You know what worries me? Adopted Dad is a diplomat. Representing his country abroad. The country is doomed.

Though I guess I now know why he always stays in Canada. That way lies diplomatic immunity for assorted acts of nuttiness.

Also, I guess it's good his enabling took the form of hiring a fake son. Can you imagine if his wife was a cannibal with a craving for a meal instead?

Daniel Henney! And crazy Austrian flashbacks! And random trips to the Island of Youth (and Emo Pain)!

Spring Waltz is a perfect cornucopia of delights. And the Island of Youth and Emo Pain is also the Island of Perfect Blooms, so it all balances out in the end.

Daniel Henney not getting the girl is one of the great injustices of Kdrama.
