Rome broke my heart in all sorts of good ways tonight.
The scene between Vorenus and Pompey was the best yet. Pompey in tears, not even acknowledging the name that once echoed across the empire and Vorenus doing the only thing he can do - letting Pompey go to his death in Egypt. I wasn't sure if it was the appeal to help him save his family or just that it was inconceivable that his hand could be the one to end the Republic that got him to bend. And then the wonderful scene with Caesar, where Julius insists that he alone can grant clemency. Caesar's clemency was well-known and also very annoying to those who were hoping to go out in a blaze of glory only to be forgiven by him. And to think Vorenus robbed him of that chance! It was terribly moving, especially when followed by his mean and unheroic death on the sands of Egypt. If they ever get to Cicero's death I hope they do an equally good job of it.
Nice to see that Cato is off to be batty in Africa. I always loved Lucan's portrayal of him in The Civil War with his batty march across the deserts of Libya.
I am not sure about the Octavia and Servilia relationship. I am guessing that they want the assassination of Caesar to be a family betrayal of all the members of the Julian clan. Either that, or they thought some hot girl on girl action would send the ratings sky-high. .
Also I am beginning to get the feeling about Veronica Mars I did when Wonderfalls was on; many people whose taste and judgement I respect and often share really like it, but I just can't get into it. I've tried and given up. Which is probably good as I don't really have the time for another show right now. I'm sticking with Threshold until it gets cancelled.

I'm wondering if Servilia's feelings are real, or is it some plan to get back at Atia and Caesar. Not that Atia would care if Octavia's heart was broken of course.
