Rapid thoughts on tonight's Rome
Nov. 20th, 2005 07:53 pmEirene is totally playing Pullo. She's going to turn the knife in pretty deep at some point, just when he least expects it - Niobe's comment on what would she do if she killed him outright sunk right in. And given the theme of female revenge, it would fit right in with the rest of the writing. I, for one, cannot wait for that moment. (And I think Pullo is not so bad - and enough of a bumbling twit that he would believe she could forgive him.)
And I must be the only person who doesn't hate Servilia: she's right in Roman terms about what Brutus owed to his family name. The family is what matters, not the individual. Caesar being dictator meant the end of the consulship for that family - that and making moves towards adopting an heir were the things that really riled up the aristocracy. After all, what was the point of being one of the elite if you could never get to the top of the heap? And she was with Caesar when he wasn't blocking the path to advancement and nobbling her son's chances of living up to the family name. I think it would have been different had he been dictator earlier.
And poor Niobe. I was sure Vorenus was going to kill her, but no, she nobly jumped to her death to save her child. That was some amazing acting on the actress' part. Though I am tired of the law of tv drama wherein happiness can never last for more than four episodes. I think there's enough unhappiness acoming that Vorenus and Niobe could have been left in their fool's paradise for longer.
ETA: Caesar's death. So befitting (not to forget nice and twitchy and with all the blood one could wish for) - but what a bunch of amateurs - like and unlike Pompey's death. Though I'm not disappointed in the lack of an 'et tu Brute' or 'kai su teknon' (depending on which source you follow) I was sorry he didn't fall at the foot of Pompey's statue.
And Marc Antony - that look, that backing out of the senate. His vengeance will be terrible. And very fun to watch. Especially if we get more lounging.
Now having seen the whole series though, I have to wonder why every other sort of sex is possible but not male homosexual sex? We've had incest, lesbianism, adultery and god knows what else but not guys in bed with each others.
Also I finally got my DVDs of Robin of Sherwood. A lot of fun revisiting my childhood crush, Michael Praed. I hadn't remembered the leggings they stuck him in at times. Or the mad 80s hair.

But Amazon UK is offering them for a lot less - and it looks like they also are selling the complete set. You could try and order it and see what happens.

Date: 2005-11-22 01:19 am (UTC)I hope so! Her falling for him was the only part of the ep I really didn't like.
I was sure Vorenus was going to kill her,
I don't think he was going to kill her. Maybe when he first got back, but not once they had grown close again. I think his plan was to kill the child, but I can't really see him doing that either.

That's easy - because straight guys are running the show!
