...but might get there soon if I have to read more essays. Not that they're bad just that I begin to twitch after about 10. In about 2 1/2 weeks I will be off to Ireland for Christmas; I just have to hold on till then without going mad from lack of sleep.

About a week ago I saw Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Ron grows more uncomely by the film, doesn't he? (Or is that me?) He is beginning to look like a deranged and pasty second-rate Romantic poet.

My new big passion is Hermione and Viktor Krum, because the actor they cast for the role was seriously rather fetching in a brutish, might leave you behind in the dacha with 5 children under 7 way. I normally am not attracted to this look, but it was tempered by his youth so I was smitten. And Hermione looked so cute with him until the heavy hand of Ron-jealousy ruined it all in a teen angst way.

Like many a foolish person before me I went looking on fanfiction.net for stories about this pairing (or even the characters). The horror! The Mary Sues! (Based on Krum lusting after other women) The improbable plots where Krum or Ron (or both - I didn't check) were abusive bastards from whom Hermione had to be saved by some unlikely hero.

And as I still don't get the Draco Malfoy love - he's an incompetent little upper-class git in my opinion - I am always astonished with the amount of stories that feature that overbred twerp.

First of all, thank you for the link to Amazon.UK. Watching Robin of Sherwood right now -- alas I have plans to give it away to my mother, but I'm enjoying it while I can ;-).

Second. I love Rupert Grint as Ron. I love him. He's just Ron to me and therefore LOVES madly.

Third. Never ever, ever go to FF.NET. Not even with a gun to your head.

Fourth. The Draco thing baffles me completely.

I am glad you are enjoying Robin of Sherwood. *Looks around and whispers*: I still sniffled when they killed off the first Robin. There's some extras on the set as well which is unusual for British DVDs.

Poor Rupert Grint - I don't dislike him (or Ron for that matter), but he seriously needs to have different hair in the next film is all I am saying.

I have learned my lesson about ff, though I will doubtless forget it and end up venturing back there at some point. It always seems like such a good idea...

And given that the book has much better villians than Malfoy I just don't get the interest in his character. He's so useless. And not at all misunderstood as far as I can see. Unless by misunderstood you mean 'he's an obnoxious little racist bully".

ITA! He desperately needs a hair cut. I haven't seen the movie yet, but the commercials made me drool over the actor who plays Cedric. I was very relieved to learn he was over 18. *g*

The hair cut is what is doing it, I think. That and there is a lot of Ron jealousy in the film which is never that attractive.

Let me know what you think of the film - I really liked it. And there were some yummy people in it. Not that I'm that shallow or anything.

::is dead:: Yeah, that's pretty much it. :-)

And I think I had a similar reaction; not usually my thing, and I wasn't too happy with him in the promo shots because I like Viktor in the book, but he had something on screen.

I read a Hermione-looks-back-on-her-life story once that featuredl Viktor that I really liked, but one computer crash and one computer buy later, I have no idea where it was... um, making this a bit pointless

I was strangely compelled by Krum even though it's not a look I normally find attractive (see my opinion of Owen, Clive).

The problem with Harry Potter fanfiction is the sheer amount of it. And the fact that most of the rec communities seem to rec mainly slash only - and as I don't really want to read about Draco and Harry and Snape getting it on that rules out much of what they recommend. (I don't mind slash but the combos in the Harry Potter universe rarely make sense to me).

Thank you. I really don't get the Draco love. He's a wimpering Mama's boy who can't possibly follow through on his claims. People think that the actor who plays him is cute and therefore project all those feelings into the character, who even Rowling has said she thinks is really just an evil little brat.

I have no idea where the idea of Draco as romantically misunderstood came from - and Rowling seemed as baffled in one of her interviews as well.

As I'm not actually a fan of the actor (though admittedly that is a thankless role) he hasn't made the character more appealing to me. Though I guess he does play him as a right little wanker so that's right on the money.
