I am stuck at work today. And tomorrow. GOD THIS STUPID PROJECT NEVER ENDS.

Anyway, this is a topic that I always wonder about: how come people never work on creating miniature versions of animals people love but which are too large to be kept as pets? Wouldn't you love a wee elephant? Or panda? Or some other delightful and now impossible to keep huge animal? YES I KNOW THE SCIENCE WOULD BE DIFFICULT. PERHAPS IMPOSSIBLE. BUT MODERN SCIENCE DOES DUMBER AND APPARENTLY HARDER THINGS ALL THE TIME. If I can get miniature pigs, then why not a teeny tiny tiger? (And, no, a cat is not the same). Eventually we could move into miniature dinosaurs. A wee T-Rex would probably be adorable. Those little arms flailing angrily as you tried to hug it would be hilarious. Though you might want watch out for the teeth.

ETA: I missed birthdays! Belated happy b-days to [livejournal.com profile] jenlev and [livejournal.com profile] queenofthorns. May this year bring you every lovely thing!

When my youngest sister was maybe 5, making me 14, we were at dinner one night and someone said the word "irrelevant." She heard it as "a relevant" and asked what a relevant was. Without missing a beat, I told her it was a kind of miniature elephant that people could keep as pets. She immediately asked my parents if we could get one. And if we could, I would. :-)

You were ahead of your time! I cannot believe that creating miniature elephants is not a priority for the world's top scientists. THAT'S JUST WRONG.

I used to fantasize about having a whole bunch of miniature people to play around with. I don't mean sexually but like the sims, only really alive. But I could go for a miniature pony. That would be so cool.

Yes, obviously the world's top scientists are wasting their time. We should have oodles of miniature animals to play with.

Forget curing cancer! Scientists need to concentrate on what is really important: getting me a miniature panda. Or t-rex. I'm not picky!

Judging from the scars I still carry from the one feral cat we tried to adopt, cats ARE TOO teeny tigers.

Perhaps that cat had escaped from some facility somewhere where a mad scientist is breeding miniature animals?

Thank you!

And heh heh heh....image of said mini!Rex is quite something indeed. I'm guessing we'll have cloned mammoths soon though.

If they are not miniature mammoths they are USELESS to me.

Hee! Well, I thought you might feel that way. Given the possibilities I've been reading about in the news lately, anything is possible. ;)

I THINK THAT IS A BRILLIANT IDEA, AND SCIENCE SHOULD GET STARTED ON IT RIGHT NOW! I especially loved your description of the mini T-Rex. That would be so adorable, and I also know friends whom I would give them to as pets.

Science is just wasting its time on tiny things like curing cancer! It needs to be put to work making T-rexes! PEOPLE ARE CRYING OUT FOR THEIR ANGRY LITTLE KILLER PETS TO NOM THEIR ANKLES!

I so wanted a baby elephant when I was little! :)

ETA - I thought I remembered reading something about pygmy elephants, and I was right. They're still too big for inside the house though.

Nature has begun the process! We only need to encourage it to think smaller! Micro-elephants are the way of the future!
