..and all I can say is feck off BSG, feck off. Right, that's it for me for the foreseeable future. Meteor Garden and Mars (both purchased recently on Ebay) here I come! Because I prefer my gender politics to be reasonably honest.
Adieu, sweet prince [=BSG] and may flights of angels bear you to your rest. Because I sure as hell won't be there with you.
Love and kisses,
me.
PS. Please god, if ever killer robots ever attack the human race, please let humanity be not as stupid as they are on Galactica and the fleet. I mean, it's not a lot to ask for, is it? And can Starbuck never be in charge of anything titled 'undercover action' ever again, because she is really bad at that. And her being put in charge of anything of that ilk sort of proves that humanity is pretty much too stupid to be allowed to survive. After all, you don't look at Starbuck and think 'hey, great undercover presence,' unless you are quite, quite mad.

Date: 2006-02-18 08:09 am (UTC)Agree completely with you. Starbuck was one of my favorite characters at the beginning, but the more time goes on the more I dislike her. She does the dumbest things and not only doesn't have to face the consequences, but at times it also seems like she's glorified for doing so.

It's like the character is becoming a bunch of twitches which is not terribly interesting to me.

Date: 2006-02-18 08:24 am (UTC)The gender roles in MG and Mars are a lot more traditional (Men kick butt and women sometimes kick men. But I do like the fact that they seem to have issues with using violence, even in so much soap).
Btw (enticing voice), are you interested in trying anime? Because Trigun is the best show I've ever seen, with the exception of Farscape.

Sadly, not really; I've watched a few bits here and there, but it's not something that comes naturally to me to like. (I think it has something to do with being traumatized by disturbing Eastern European cartoons on Irish TV as a child myself.) But I never thought I'd be buying Taiwanese soaps either, so I guess I should never say never. (Though friends have been unkind about my stated intention to watch them.)

Date: 2006-02-18 07:28 pm (UTC)I have no idea which one to rec to watch first. Mars' clothes are less atrocious and I think it's in many ways a darker story (Ling is a lot more messed up than DMS and ditto for the heroines), but I don't know. I really do hope you won't hate it.
Btw, my Mars subtitles are excellent, but the MG subtitles are...creative. They are OK to get the gist, but think old Bolly subtitles :)
Re: anime. Understand entirely. I only gave anime a chance because I loved Howl's Moving Castle that my husband dragged me to and I decided it might be something I like. Before that it was all instinctive 'cartoons, no way' thing.
