I recently bought the first season of this and am now just watching it. I don't know why I didn't like it the first time around, because I am really enjoying it. I really remember the dialogue annoying me first time around but I can't imagine why because now I think it is rather well written.

I wouldn't say it's my favourite thing ever, but it is quite excellent. I really like Veronica (though it's hard to believe that anyone quite as cute and nice as Veronica would ever be completely ostracized. But high school is a harsh, harsh mistress) but the supporting cast is what really gets me. From Wallace to Weevil they are all rather marvellous. Though I am not feeling any Logan love, which I think I am supposed to. Does it pick up later on in the season?

The only thing I was really appalled by was that they gave Paris Hilton a role! It nearly made me stop watching when her giant, blonde bobble head popped up.

ETA: Veronica Mars makes me want to post witty, clever, snarky things, but I can't think of anything astonishingly witty to say. Perhaps you could imagine this as bitingly clever in the manner of an 18th century wit?

You're so weird! Isn't he the most loveable thing ever? (IOW, you're not the only one. I found him interesting enough not to be annoyed by him, unlike other asshole characters, but the degree of love he gets puzzled me.)

The way he's presented does change quite a bit, so maybe he'll grow on you. I watched VM "backwards", seeing a few season 2 eps before getting the first season in its entirety, and was all WTF? when I encountered early Logan.

I've seen a few episodes from season 3 and it is a bit surprising that he is such a jerk in season one. Admittedly he is also surrounding by jerks which makes him stand out less than otherwise. (This also explains why I don't hate him; he's just one more awful high school kid).

How far in are you? There is no Logan love to be felt early on in the season (IMO). I mean, I love him but in a 'don't you want to break his face' awful character you must have as antagonist, sort of way. I love him madly now, but not in the early parts of S1.

Btw, psssst, no idea if you are still into dramas, but Hana Yori Dango has a second season out and it's even better than the first...

I am watching episode 9 (the one with the cult). So not halfway through the season. I don't actually loathe him because he's only one of many wankers and thus my dislike is spread rather thin.

I am still into doramas - I've been eagerly reading your posts on HYD 2, but I've decided to stay away until they have a few more episodes posted (also I need to buy an external hard drive) because I don't think I can deal with waiting for dorama episodes - I've gotten so used to watching them all the way through. Also I still have a few other things here to watch (Pride and Spring Waltz) which I really should get through first.

I think I had the EXACT same reaction as you are having now: why didn't I watch this the first time around? (I think in my case it's only that I'm contrary and everyone kept saying how VM was the best thing on TV - which I still dispute - and anyway, I was head-over-heels in love with BSG when "Veronica Mars" was first airing, so was less interested.)

(I do however, like the first season better than the next two!)

P.S. I too couldn't understand people liking Logan when I first watched season 1. He's still not my favorite character (that'd be Veronica) but I do like him much, much more now.

I actually watched one episode (or parts of one) and for some reason I was put off. I think it must be that I wasn't as blown away by it as everyone said I would be and then I was all 'well, it's not *that* good.' However there is something about being able to watch things in one long run that is very pleasant - especially when you know it hasn't been cancelled and there is more to look forward to!

I've been watching bits and bobs of season three - the whole evil feminists thing annoys me a great deal, but I haven't seen the latest ones.

I think I'm actually the sort of person who drives TV execs to despair, because this REALLY is how I like to watch TV - at my leisure, as many episodes as I want on tap!

Yes! But discovering things (like doramas) in sets makes me *very* impatient with real time tv. Especially as you don't know if they will cancel something - like the Nine.

I went through this process about a month ago, at the beginning of winter break, and I was watching eps at a rate of four a day (or one rental disk). The Logan-evolution throughout the season is pretty fascinating; I had no love for him either 'til the very end. On the other hand, Weevil and Wallace both had my wholehearted endorsement from day one, and honestly Wallace seemed like a much better best friend than the girl who died who seemed shallow and kind of pointless. (Much as I love Amanda Seyfried for being in Big Love and my favorite guilty pleasure movie, Mean Girls.) When I wrote about it in my LJ someone on my flist said that the Paris Hilton stunt-casting thing was foisted upon the show as one of the network's "improvements" -- and at least they managed to write her out pretty quickly.

I would have wasted, er, spent the rest of break watching the rest of the series, but my rental place has lost the first disk of s. 2; [livejournal.com profile] queenofthorns has promised to rescue me . . .

Over the past days I have watched about 11 episodes and still going strong. I can always netflix the second season (though I think my local shop also has them all if I need a quicker fix!).

Who on earth thought that adding Paris Hilton to anything would improve it? She is a black hole of awfulness and you can just see her thinking 'I am Paris Hilton and really great! Look at me!' Wretched woman.

I give Lily as bestest friend ever because well, they were younger and she did die tragically. And Veronica seemed a bit shallow then as well before she got ostracized. Something about being on the outs gives you character apparently.

I'm not signed up at netflix just because I've been doing business with the same independent video store in my neighborhood for (eep!) 15 years. (Luck into a cheap apartment in NYC and you never move again . . . ) Sometimes I'm jealous of the selection, but Alan carries a lot more interesting stuff than the chains so I'm not disappointed too often. But they have definitely let me down on the VMars front . . .

Veronica seemed not only shallow but outright naive. In fact, way too innocent to be popular despite her adorableness except through the reflected light of Lily and Duncan. Now of course she is 16/17/18 going on 35. I still think Wallace is a great friend, though. Even when he gets popular and Veronica is still ostracized, he is so loyal. Although I have some trouble picturing him as a basketball star. (Though maybe I shouldn't. I know the Knicks have some guy who's my height -- five eight -- now, and when I was following the NY Liberty women's team more regularly there was this wonderful opponent we used to see sometimes who was five two -- some of the women players are five eight and thereabouts but even most of them are six feet -- more the height of a typical high school male player I'd think . . . )

The further the season progresses the more annoying I find Lily. I don't know if that's intentional or not, but at this point I am thinking that the pursuit of her killer is more about Veronica thinking that if she can solve that everything will be alright again.

It's interesting because long ago Veronica seems like a not terribly interesting person. Which probably matches up with Duncan whom I now find rather boring; he just doesn't really do anything except be there and be popular.

As for apartments and long stays. Well, I haven't been that long in mine but I also have no intention of leaving (cheapness how do I love you!). It's also got some really excellent video rental stores around. I use them as well as netflix as quite a lot of the time I like to browse and see what's out there. Or what sins actors committed in the past.

I read an interview with Rob Thomas where he said that Paris was hard to work with (no surprises there). The show makes fun of her a few times in later episodes (both in seasons 1 and 2...possibly in season 3, but I haven't seen it yet), which I found immensely amusing.

You can actually see Paris thinking 'I'm a STAR!!!! I'm so wonderful' throughout the episode. I can just imagine what she was like to deal with.
