BSG and Fic Recommendation

I've just read k_julia's
WIP Things we've done and all I can say is that it is amazing.  It's Lee/Laura but even if you don't like that pairing you should read it as it is a tremendously well written piece. The characterization is spot on and the writing is beyond perfect.  The first part is at http://www.livejournal.com/users/k_julia/19857.html.

Yay! BSG is back!  I had to practically strong-arm my partner to watch this (he is not a fan at all which can make life a bit awkward when I madly squee). Luckily he was too tired from his flight  to want to go out, so I could at least watch it.

I was amused to see that flash back Adama had a mad 70s porn-star moustache. Good to see the Colonials also went through a period of dodgy hair in the not too distant past.

Giving my shipping tendencies on this show I was pleased by the scenes of Laura and Lee in jail together.  If, (as meret pointed out on her journal) that isn't good source material for fanfics I don't know what is. What will they talk about in the long lonely reaches of the night?  More importantly, what will they do with all that time together? (Okay there are bars in the way, but still...) 

I wondered what to make of the 'prophet Laura' and the prayer scene: she didn't look too gung-ho about it, but she still let it happen.  I did like her advice to Lee to denounce her if that was what it took to get out of jail.  It's interesting because it ties into what some people have said about her being totally ruthless - she has no problem with other people being as ruthless if it's for the overall good.  The problem is that I'm not sure where such a stance will lead in the end. 

I liked the way that the second in commands came through in this episode  -and I'm not really all that fond of Tigh.  He held it together on Galactica as did the Chief on Kobol.  I really hope we see a similar plot for Billy this season.

Strangely, even with all that was going on I found Boomer's plot the most chilling. I guess I believe her that she didn't even know what she had done.  I like the idea that she's desperately trying to fight against her fate and losing tragically; there's something noble and traditionally tragic about struggling so hard against what is a done deal. I know Grace Park gets flak for her acting butthe more I see of her the more I like her. 

Not much Starbuck but the 'bitch stole my ride' line was hilarious.  I wonder what's going on there - does Caprica Boomer have a plan that benefits Helo and Starbuck as well as herself?  I do hope that this is not a precursor to Starbuck being stuck on Caprica for a long, long time. 

I also saw the new Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  Hmmm. I'm a bit cool about it which is surprising as I thought I'd love it.  It looks good and it's all shiny but it feels terribly empty.  Also I had no idea what the Ooompa-Loompas were singing most of the time -  I could barely catch a word which got annoying on about the third song.

I felt really sorry for her too, but I still want her spaced. I don't think that the cylons can control their programming, no matter how much they might want to. That's why I'll never trust Caprica!Boomer.
