This has been a long week what with the car woes and other annoying and expensive things happening. But today to celebrate installing memory in my laptop (sssh. to me it was a real feat because the electrical things have not been liking me lately) I am trying to see what drinks I can make out of my, er, rather extensive array of liquors and such.

I've been really wondering what to do with a bottle of Midori, because it's not a terribly useful drink to just chuck in things. However, a friend suggested mixing with equal parts fresh lemon juice and vodka, which makes a very lovely, refreshing beverage. Mind you, it looks like the sort of thing that a witch would hand you to wipe out your memories forever, but that only adds to the charm. I recommend it highly. Yum!

Tomorrow evening I have a few friends coming over to try and drink some more of the stuff because it can't be shipped to Canada (cruel, cruel country!). If anybody has any suggestions on how to make Drambuie palatable beyond mixing it with perfectly good and innocent whisky I would be grateful.

And if you're ever in Los Angeles this place makes the most amazing cocktails I've ever imbibed: http://www.thehungrycat.com/. They don't make a massive range but everything I've drunk there has been wonderful. Also, they have *amazing* cheese.

I like cheese.

ETA: I am currently watching a Korean film (Seducing Mr. Perfect) with an actor I have never seen before by the name of Daniel Henney. It shouldn't be possible for people to be as goodlooking as him. Seriously, he's like some perfect genetic freak he is so handsome. This picspam, marvellous though it is, still doesn't quite get across how, well, wow, he is on screen.

ETA 2: Is it a bad or a good sign when you watch so many Korean dramas that you start understanding simple conversations in the language?

You could always drizzel that drambuie over ice cream.

That sounds yummy, but would take a lot of time to get through the bottle...it's an almost full bottle. I wonder how much I can use before it stop being a drizzle? :)

Soak Glaze a steak and veggies in it for grilling?

I like this idea and may well try it. I wonder how much soaking would be enough for maximum flavour without them going on fire?

For overnight marinade not a lot because the excess has to be disposed of and why waste the booze.
I would suggest constant basting with a brush as they cook. Mix the booze with an oil dressing or paste sauce.
Lower slow heat on the grill will make less fire.

Interesting. I've heard of wine and cheese, but cocktails and cheese? No so much.

CHEESE GOES WITH EVERYTHING. Especially after a few drinks... :)

Easy there. I'm not knocking it, I'm just saying I've never tried it. Guess I'll have to give it a whirl.

Hee! Sorry to be so protective of the cheese consumption. Blue cheese and any grapefruit cocktail is quite amazing. Really!

I think you definitely have to count that as good. That makes all those dramas be more than just entertainment - they're *education*.

It's going to be a weird education though. It's like how I understand all of these romantic phrases in Hindi but nothing else! :)

My friends made some excellent "sangreena" for their Everything Green party last year using Midori and white wine (and kiwis and other green fruit.)

Yum! That sounds great - was it very sweet, though? I am not a big fan of sweet drinks which is why I was so perplexed about what to do with the Midori.

It wasn't that sweet, as I recall, even though they used a reisling. And you could probably do a dry white wine and keep it from being too sweet at all.

You haven't watched "My name is Kim Sam Soon?" (Daniel Hennely was in it and also not less gorgeous Hyun Bin). More I think about it more I am inclined to say that "Kim Sam Soon" is the best Korean drama I have watched plus to Goong and "A love to kill" but three of them are really different. Kim Sam Soon is of happy variety. :D

I haven't! More Daneil Henney... And I could do with a happy one at the moment.

I have a couple which were given to me for my birthday so after I've got through those that should be next. Unless I am too tempted, that is. :)

** tries to persuade you ** here is a pictorial post I made: http://community.livejournal.com/dorama_chat/91048.html (it can be considered spoilery if you are very picky but I guess it is not a secret that hero and heroine are going to kiss once or twice :D)

Daniel is playing a lovely "second man" role there. It is a rare drama where I love all four main protagonists..

Mmm, Daniel Henney. The subtitles in those pics crack me up. And I second the rec for Kim Sam Soon, as it's one of the few dramas I've seen. It has really great characters in it.

I think I might invest in a copy...if only because I am deep in the throes of Daniel Henney discovery. Well. that and it looks and sounds quite good. But I can't quite get over how I've never seen this guy in anything before.
