Smallville

So, I'm watching the first episode of the new season of Smallville, as we all know that I love rubbish and someone just reminded me that Smallville is reliably low quality TV with many pretty people. But as I haven't seen it for years, since long before Lois was added, there are all of these new characters who are rather a shock to the system. But mainly I am wondering about Lois: um, is she always this shrill and rather horrid? It might work better if she didn't also seem to have been dropped on her head often as a child. There appears little for her be smug about in the brains department.

ETA: Also! I am lazy, so can someone tell me what Chloe's job is these days?

Thanks! I haven't seen a bunch of seasons so I missed the founding of the meteor foundation.

I wouldn't mind Lois being snide but based on the little (ie one episode) I've seen she doesn't really seem to have a lot to be snide about.
