Top Fives: Part I

1. Jason Bourne. Sure, he wouldn’t be much company what with the manpain and the Marie mourning. But he’d be good at building a log cabin even if he had to gnaw his way through the logs. And fighting bears or assorted other wild animals.
2. Gina, Duchess of Sanseverina from The Charterhouse of Parma. So what if she fell in love with her nephew - she’d be so much fun. And have fabulous frocks.
3. Dionysus. Booze. Leopards. Dancing. All round good times.
4. Queen Maeve. Because she’s bloody amazing and would whip the guys into shape. Even Dionysus.
5. Bertie Wooster + Jeeves. THEY’RE A PAIR, right? Because I would just love to see Bertie interact with Bourne. I bet God’s daisy chain and Eugene Aram (“Tum-tum, tum-tum, tum-tumty-tum, I slew him, tum-tum tum!”) would come up. He’d be useless but entertaining.
1. Capital Scandal (or, as I like to call it: awkward bookshop owners and the playboys who love them). Swing dancing and revolutionaries.
2. Hong Gil Dong. More revolution! Robin Hood in Korean historic times! It does all end sort of badly and I am not always convinced by the heroine but it is quite lovely. And tragic.
3. My Girl. Congirl meets quite nice guy. Plays his grandfather’s long lost granddaughter. Delightful heroine, hero who is, for once, stable, but has a lamentable taste in clothing. Plus girly-man as secondary hero!
4. Spring Waltz. While I still believe that Daniel Henney should have got the girl, I don’t mind too much. Plus I still get pleasure from remembering the hilarious subtitles my DVDs had. (This icon comes from there).
5. What Happened in Bali. I shall never rewatch this as it is too depressing but, boy, it was genuinely good. Plus had the worst kdrama father ever. (And, believe me, if you knew the full competition out there you would be suitably impressed.)
1. Secondary girl in Stairway to Heaven .

2. Marc Singer as crazy mountain man immortal in Highlander. His crazy eyes were a thing of beauty. BEWARE THE CRAZY EYES
3. Sharukh Khan as Rahul Mehra in Darr. I think the crazy eyes were only fully in evidence when he danced in front of the giant picture of the object of his stalking (while singing of his mother. Or something). But I have never forgotten them.
4. The villain from Oh Darling Yeh Hai India. Especially in the scene where he is menacing the heroine on his revolving bed and there is a snake somehow involved. THE GREATEST SCENE INVOLVING A SNAKE IN ALL OF BOLLYWOOD AND I INCLUDE JOHN ABRAHAM IN KAAL IN THAT.
5. Dramatic prairie dog is dramatic!

Date: 2009-08-10 08:06 am (UTC)I need to watch Capital Scandal and finish Hong Gil Dong. (I know it ends badly, and I just can't force myself to face the angst that I know is waiting for me there.)
I love the fact that you included Dramatic Prairie Dog on your list of crazy eyes.

Date: 2009-08-11 04:19 am (UTC)You should watch Capital Scandal after Hong Gil Dong. It also has angst but most of the people end up okay. And swing dancing!

Date: 2009-08-11 05:12 am (UTC)The thing is, I stopped watching Hong Gil Dong over a year ago, and I'm not sure I'll ever get motivated to finish it. I love swing dancing, and I know the costumes are really nice, so I do have motivation to watch Capital Scandal, but I think both HGD and being in Japan and surrounded by the sound of the Japanese language has turned me off from Korean dramas, a little for a while.

Date: 2009-08-11 12:47 am (UTC)Capital Scandal and My Girl sound really good. I'll have to look them up.
And proof that Crazy Eyes is indeed Crazy.

Date: 2009-08-11 04:15 am (UTC)CRAZY EYES! It is hard to get pictures of her that capture the craziness properly. She remains my favourite insane secondary girl in kdrama.
