Hmm. It seems a bunch of people are hopping over to dreamwidth. I have an account there, but, to be honest, keeping up with two journalling sites is beyond me. And, despite LJs constant fuckwittery, I prefer it over here. Unless all my flist vanishes - and even then - I can't see myself having the energy to move anywhere. And I have a strong suspicion that DW will not quite prove to be the fannish nirvana that everyone anticipates. Though if it is, well done there.

Basically, I guess, that while I don't like LJs mistakes, I don't really expect any blogging sites to act any different if they get large enough and want to turn a profit. And years of reading fandom wank doesn't exactly make me believe that fans running anything is automatically a good thing.

But more importantly: I am doing a rewatch of Robin of Sherwood and it is awesomely good as ever. I think I might buy the Blu-rays whenever they come out. RUNNING THROUGH THE GREENWOOD IN HIGH DEF. HOW AWESOME WILL THAT BE? Plus exciting dry ice will be even better in Blu-Ray. I AM SURE OF IT. Um, I may have bought a set of the novelizations which were going cheap.

In conclusion: Robin! The Hooded Man!

ITA about Dreamwidth and keeping up in two places and all of it. I have enough trouble staying current here. *sigh*

I'm always impressed by people who can do it, but I'm such a total failure whenever I try.

You just summed up the whole reason I too am sticking with Livejournal.

I'll be impressed if they stagger on, but I am rendered cynical by all the initiatives that start out strong and then just implode. And if they don't I can't see that they won't end having to go the way of all larger organizations and start pissing someone off.

If an LJ staff member spies on my journal and I find out, I'm out of here (I'm not paranoid about privacy but there's a reason I lock most rl-mentioning stuff). 'Til then, though, I'm not too enthusiastic to quit. Been here too long. Lazy. Etc. :D

With something like that, yes, it's fucked up and I'd bolt too, but given all the creepy things that fandom does on a regular basis, I'm not any more sanguine about DW not ending in a giant pile of wank.

I have account there with the same username but I am not using it at the moment. I'm too used to this and enjoy my flist and comms... so I won't be leaving. Just in case there is a massive stampede, I don't think I'll move completely over there. Updating both is out of the question in my case. No time.

I got an account to have the same username just in case everyone bolted. But even so...I don't know. Almost everyone I interact with is still on LJ and all the comms (like you say) are here. And there's no way even with crossposting I can keep up with two sites.

Where else would I get my Kdramas? :)

I go one because I didn't want anyone else taking my username. But everyone I follow and all the comms I like are over here. I don't want to go! I like it here!

Robin is sheer awesomeness. And tight pants.

DUM-DUM! (It is so time to dust off the RoS DVDs.)

I have a deep-seated loathing of Facebook, so finding out LJ and Facebook are owned by the same company has really put me off. I'll stop paying for my LJ account, definitely, but if I move to Dreamwidth I'll repost here and I'll keep reading my LJ flist. I'm not going to abandon people for the sake of a fuckwitted company.

I did watch Robin Hood and the Sorcerer yesterday. I love most of that show unconditionally, but the "is THIS the spirit of ENGLAND??" speech never fails to make me giggle hysterically. <3

I don't think I have time for a proper rewatch, though, I've been supposed to make a tiny sheriff robe for about a year now, and the one I want is in Sheriff of Nottingham.

Yeah, I have a DW account but LJ is still where the converations seem to happen (even if many of them are about how much LJ fails).

ROOOOOBIIIIN HOOOO-OOOD, the hoody-bah *bing bong* My love for ROS is bottomless. A rewatch might indeed be in order, for when Merlin inevitably fails to be anywhere near as fun. The novelisations are hi-larious, too: they really are just the scripts with the occasional 'his eyes blazed with righteous fury' etc chucked in. Will never forgive them for issuing the book of the end of S2 before it aired, though. Um, spoilery much? Oh, my poor, poor, broken chilish heart...

All the comms seem to be over here. And even if they're over there, they seem wierdly without any joy.

Rewatch RoS! I am looking for people to squee and sniffle with. I can't wait for the novelizations no matter how terrible they turn out to be. I can relive my childhood all over again.

I hope they don't bring out the Robin of Sherwood Blu-rays for a long time because I only got the DVD's last year and I still have the VHS box sets upstairs! Not sure how I'd rationalise getting the same show in a new format - eh, I'd manage somehow.

I have the novelisations as well. I got them back in the day when the show was on. They're still in good nick. I also have a Robin of Sherwood role playing book where you are Robin, you throw the dice when it says so as you go through the adventure and it decides what options you take and basically if you suceed or not. Basically I kept the Movie/TV tie-in industry afloat during the 1980's.

I cannot wait for the novelisations. I don't care how awful they are or how well I know the stories.

I was going to get the new versions of the DVDs but I am super excited that now I have a much better reason to add to Kit Carpenter's bank balance.

And years of reading fandom wank doesn't exactly make me believe that fans running anything is automatically a good thing.

Having watched synecdochic's spectacular meltdown over her clan_mitchell comm (someone posted a fic which gently pointed out some of the less savory aspects of the setup and she and her co-mod went ballastic, spewing at people who even so much as commented they liked the fic, complete with deletions), and finding out she was Rahaeli at LJ, who I know best as the abuse person who happily banned people for icons of the Virgin Mary nursing while having her own default icon showing a naked breast, I have no particular confidence in the reliability of DW longterm in fandom terms.

I think it's fine to have options, mind you, but the people naively claiming it could never go wrong make me laugh.

From: [identity profile] lesbiassparrow.livejournal.com
The clan_mitchell thing was hilarious. But terrifying. And as screwed up as LJ is, if fandom_wank has taught me anything, it's that fandom can go off the deep end faster and more flashily than anything else.

And frankly I think more people are not interested in DW than you'd think. I suspect it's just a case of the DW people being more vocal to try and get the place a bit more active (the DW communties are dead any time I've checked that site out anyway). But I resent it when LJ is used as a recruiting platform, and every other minute the DW people are handing out codes for their site. They're going a bit overboard IMO

Eh, I'm not interesting in moving to DW either. (That's mostly laziness talking, of course :-).
Ah, RoS, how well you have aged, and how poor you make other Robin Hood adaptations look in comparison. I am drooling at the thought of RoS in high def! And I am just now realising the abysmal lack of RoS icons in my arsenal...
