Finally saw 'Flesh and Bone' last night and was wondering about gods and names.

So Starbuck worships the unlikely combination of Artemis and Aphrodite? And possibly Athena (wasn't one of those little figures she pulled from her locker Athena?). Two virgin goddesses (one of whom is the sister of Apollo, which doesn't bode well for that relationship) and the goddess of love? Odd combination, especially given the Apollo issue.

Though, I guess Aphrodite/Venus is a good tutelary goddess for the fleet - she does after all get the Trojans to their new home in Italy and the eventual founding of Rome. But Athena is a bit stranger, as although she is a warrior goddess, she is the goddess of reason in war - I would have thought that Starbuck was more of an Ares/Mars girl myself.

On a side note: Laura refers to laurel, Apollo's tree. But it only becomes his tree after the unfortunate Daphne, while fleeing from him turns into a laurel tree. Unhappy love stories are everywhere, I tell you.

I saw this post on Stranger Things, and I wanted to ask you something about it. How could you tell at the end which idols she was holding?

I enjoyed the part of them showing her beliefs. Really, Starbuck is quite spiritual in her set of beliefs, almost as a contrast and counterpart to Six in her set of beliefs. Maybe that's part of the yin/yang we see with them coming together in KLG2.

I was not, however, able to recognize that the idols represented specific goddesses. Is that some "common knowledge" I missed, or a subject you know lots about?

I don't have this on tape anymore but I thought that I recalled one of the statuettes Kara took out of her locker had a little owl on the shoulder (hence = Athena). The other didn't have the moon on her brow that would indicate Artemis - but now that I think about it she could be Artemis of Ephesus who is a highly sexualised version of Artemis.
