A Really Odd Reaction to the Who Casting Spoilers for Season Three

What's really strange about the whole Martha's family thing is that I am interested to see what they do with mum and dad, but I somehow have this incredibly hostile reaction to the idea of siblings being on the show. Isn't that odd and quite mad? I've been trying to think why it is and the best I can come up with is that we might end up going back even more to London, but I don't think that's quite it. Any suggestions? Anyone else want to join me in my madness?

Maybe because it's unprecedented? The only equivalent I can think of is Tegan's stupid cousin Stupid.

Hmm. I'm not overly enthused either, but I'm going to trust & wait & see. You never know, it could be the best development evah. :)

PS: I haven't heard the actual details - is there a sister? Ten to one David Tennant snogs the sister before the end of the series... Ooh, isn't Captain Jack coming back in season 3? he can snog the brother, if there's a brother

No! And that's what is so strange. I'm really, really close to my sister as well. I think it's because I fear child actors might be on the horizon (what if Martha has a teensy, younger sister or brother?) and that's my excuse.

My feeling is so bonkers that it makes no sense at all.

Well, they could do it differently, I guess: they could have them all waving enthusiastically as Martha heads off with this strange man, delighted to have a spare bedroom now, rather than being all sad to see her go. Though that would be sort of mean, it would make the character even more sympathetic.

I think I'm just a bit freaked out that there are so many of them being cast with named actors, which means that I am wondering how many episodes they will be in. I want alien travel, dammit, and no more London for a bit!

There's always going to be a limit to the number of alien planets, though; they just don't have the budget.

Probably even more of a limit now that they really want to show massive structures on alien planets. No more quarries = high costs. :(

I hope you don't mind me jumping in. I saw the link to this thread in who_daily and couldn't resist. I was oddly unsettled by the idea of a sibling as well, but I can't pinpoint why. Maybe it's because--as cheesy as this sounds--is seems unfair to take one and not the other. Okay, that sounds even more stupid written out.

I'm also kind of 'meh' about her whole family, only because I'm not thrilled about the idea of the entire cast (except the Doctor, we hope) being out when a companion goes. Personally, I'd prefer to see some minor supporting cast along the lines of Classic Who with the Brig and UNIT, etc. that were around through changing companions.

I can see what you're saying about the sibling and the rest. I wonder if she'll be the only one with wanderlust and the rest willl all be 'Go around with a dodgy guy in a police box? You've got to be kidding!'

And as you say it does give them some problems with cast changes - though I guess it also gives them tons of guest roles for any actor who wants a part. It's also 4 extra people whom I assume will have recurring roles and who they may have to find time for in stories.
