Please send help: I find manpain unnervingly attractive

I am deeply disturbed by how much better I feel that 'Time of Dog and Wolf' got once they started beating the living daylights out of the hero at least once an episode. I refuse to interrogate what this says about me but I am sure it is nothing good. (And the hero getting beat up is not a spoiler because I feel this is the sort of show where they will whack the living daylights out of him on regular basis because they can.)

And to prove it's not just physical pain I admire, I must confess that 'Silence' also got even better* once the hero found out that not only did he have little time to live because of liver cancer but that the heroine did not remember that they were childhood loves. Oh, the angst! And the shots of the hero looking attractively agonized as he dwelt on his unrequited love!

I am saving 'Coffee Prince,' a touching story of cross dressing and, er, coffee to cheer myself up after I have finished 'Silence.'

I AM NOT PROUD ABOUT ANY OF THIS.


*And by better I mean even more likely to rip my heart out.

The manpain in Time of Dog and Wolf is pretty severe. I will be upset if it ends badly as so much suffering needs some sort of comforting end. Also I don't want the emo brother to live happily instead (which is what I fear) as he annoys me.

Still, I worry about this one. I was thinking that this was just so-so and then lo and behold the heroine is whacked a fair bit and I started thinking 'well, this is pretty good...'

And hey, much as I did like it from the start, I can feel myself slavering at the mere thought of the fictional hero beatdown, so at least we can be demented together...

If emo brother gets the girl it will be very unjust. Though he is a bit less emo and more active in 4, but still going on about the girl. Give it over already! It's not like you two had a relationship going on before your brother showed up and he interfered. Basically, your connection consisted of you trying to pick up in an airport, which is hardly what I'd call a deep and abiding love affair.

ROFL. And a totally lame pick-up it was. As someone who's been in the recieving end of such pick-ups, I would like to assure emo!brother that no, your 'clever' attempt did not result in her moping over you fondly. More like rolling her eyes in annoyance.

Hey. It's totally a socially approved reason. Just think, if you weren't watching LJK angst prettily, you could be out in the streets robbing passerby or perhaps singing Celine Dion songs in karaoke. So this is asving you, me, and scores of others from truly antisocial behavior...

Manpain is very attractive, for reasons I don't understand either. But for me the appeal is more that I can make fun of it, because not every actor can pull off the manpain convincingly. The best is when every male character in a drama has manpain, and then it becomes a competition.

The one in 'Time of Dog and Wolf' isn't even close. LJK's mum was shot in front of him, he's been beaten up badly twice, and his first love is the daughter of the man who shot his mum. All emo brother has is that he thinks the heroine should be with him because he totally tried to pick her up first. He's going to have to do better.

Silence likes to have Vik Zhou's character lie fetchingly on white sheets like a Victorian heroine. I find it fascinating and suspect the director was in love with him.
